Iona -6 over Rider
A MAC game so early in the season.But this is 2 teams going in different directions.Rider lost Porter who did everything for them lyr.Inside-outside scorer.They have no one to replace him.They also will miss Baker and Wicks who played imp. roles on this team.
Iona lost Wilson but has been replaced by 2 or 3 players.In NY state Ruland had a great recruiting yr nabbing 3 players from All Hallows HS in NYC.McCullough is a 6'0 gd that I thought was going to a BE school.He can play.Then Rice HS star Burtt jr signs with Iona.He was recruited by many.But his father is the all time leading scorer at Iona.
These 2 kids are impact gds.But they still have 5'10 "bowling ball" Woffard who can shoot and motor up the court.
Their frontcourt is solid with Fields who has a nice touch,Jenkins and Hensen inside.With some other top freshman puppies this team has depth.They can hit the 3.Fields their 6'9 foward can stick it.Burtt and McCullough have that range.
Iona problems have been defense and turnovers.I think they have improved on that.All these fresh faces come from cathlolic schools.They play defense.
Rider has the best pt gd in the league in Johnson.He could start for any B-12,B-East team.He can shoot the 3's,pass,dribble,etc.But he has no one around him like Porter. Reed is the 6'10 Englishman that can dominate the bds.But he is slow.Wahlman,Taylor,and Youny all avg. 2,2,and 8 pts a game lyr.Throw in Reeds 4.4 avg and there is not much around.
I like Iona here to win this by 10-15 pts.There are much quicker,have 5 or 6 people that can score.Lyr they both split with each other and margin of pts was 2 and 3.Not tonite.
