Missouri's Rush breaks nose
November 21, 2001
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Kareem Rush, the Big 12 scoring leader last season, broke his nose during No. 5 Missouri's victory over Alabama.
It was not clear if the preseason All-American would be able to play Wednesday night against No. 9 Iowa. Missouri beat No. 22 Alabama 75-68 on Tuesday in the semifinals of the Guardians Classic.
The team said he broke his nose during the first half. In the second half, Rush was helped from the floor after he was accidentally elbowed by Alabama's Demetrius Smith.
The 6-foot-6 Rush had a big knot over his left eye and was taken to a hospital after the game. Tests for a concussion were negative, school spokesman Chad Moller said.
``He took a shot,'' Missouri coach Quin Snyder said. ``It wasn't an intentional thing. It swelled up really fast. He was a little dizzy. He was scared.''
