Back in 1975 Our neighbor made 80K a year and was considered wealthy. Is the current bench mark of taxation for the "wealthy" really 250K? Seriously? If you lived in Mississippi maybe? What should the real benchmark be? Thinking 500K ?

1 mil a year is rich, 250k in New York city is not that's for sure, you can live comfortable on 250k per but not rich by any stretch, I only know a couple people that make more than 250k per year

If you make 350K or above you are considered part of the 1%. 250K is not even close to rich, big difference between rich and wealthy.

Semantics.

But I'll say this: If you make $250k you are making 6x the average US worker. What does making 600% the average income in the US make you?

Definitely not "middle class".

$250K isn't Bill Gates "rich', but....at $250K, unless you're an absolute idiot, and wherever you live, you can live very well, at the top of the food chain. You can have a larger house than you need, you can eat, drink and drive pretty much whatever you want, you can send your kids to college, you can put aside lots of retirement money. You can have all the medical care you'll ever need, pay your own way if your ever need a nursing home. Your kids can have braces, your wife can have plastic surgery, you can have a penile implant.

You can have a mistress on the side, sit in the front row at the theater, go deep sea fishing, sit in a box at football game.

$250K rich? Sure. 95% of Americans would call that rich.

Grossing 1 Million every 4 years....yeah, I'd say that's rich.

Here's the thing: If you make 6 figures, you are doing VERY well. If you and your wife are making 6 figures each, you're killing it. Anything above that is pretty much rich. You don't need a monocle and a pocket watch to be rich.

Rather than talk dollars, talking 'percentage', if you make more than $100k you are in the top 7% of earners in the US.
Don't know what $250k a year would be, but I would guess top 3%

To draw an analogy, if you were in the 93rd percentile of IQ in the country where would you place yourself? Maybe not a genius, but you'd be considered pretty fucking smart.

Very good analogy. Here in central Missouri $250,000 would be considered wealthy.

I understand it wouldn't go as far if you lived in Manhattan, but for 99.9% of the rest of the country it would be a very good living.

the question is, is that considered rich? I say no

1/2 mil per year or 1 mil per year is considered rich to me

I am an advocate of flat taxing everyone, no matter income and getting rid of all deductions 15% seems like a good number or consumption tax of 15%

if you save then thats great if you spend then you get hit with tax

I can see both sides.

Is the $250,000 a one time shot? Say a salesperson or anybody that works on commission.

If a 30 year old person makes $250,000 a year, and that money will continue to come in for the rest of their life I would consider that person rich.

Depending how they want to live there really isn't anything with in reason they could not afford.

I would agree if you are 30 and pulling in that kinda jack you are rich and going to be wealthy at some point in the curve, not too many 30 yr olds making that in business

250K is not shit......Your wrong on all accounts. Most honest hard working (Not silver spoon feed) people that make over that amount are in major positions over seeing hundreds of people. There is a sacrifice to being a leader and having that much responsibility. You do what others are not "willing" to do.
You do not call in sick, you work 70 hour weeks. You are never really away from your responsibilities. Then your asked to pay for 20 welfare families, take care of your children, your parents and god forbid if you do not "work" yourself to death......Hopefully you live long enough to buy a small place in the mountains and try and "Pay" for your own retirement.

Is not as superficial as your making it out to be. When your taxed to death, the question becomes.....is it fucking worth all the bullshit that you have to put up with for socialism? I can join them and sit on my ass and watch every fucking program on tv and "get Paid" . Isn't that what life is all about :0008
