Is a muffed punt a fumble recovery?

This is only an educated guess.....but if the returner never had possession of the ball.....I dont think it would be counted as a fumble. Could be wrong.....but thats the general rule

A fumble is defined as a fumble recovered from the opposing team. Just forcing a fumble doesn't count. The Defensive/Special Team must recover it. A muffed punt or kickoff that is recovered by the kicking team counts as a special teams fumble recovery.
