A Direct quote from the college gameday announcer( the black dude w/ glasses) " USC only has to worry about stopping Vince Young while Texas has to worry about stopping Reggie Bush, Matt Leinhart, Lendell White, and many others. "

Keep in mind that Texas averages more rushing yards a game than SC as the #3 rushing team in the country. I think you are disrespecting Texas backs by saying you ONLY have to stop Young.

Has anyone else noticed anything else ESPN has said about the game?

the point he was trying to make is basically correct.....if young is shut down do you think texas stays within 14 or even....21?????

if he is shut down they get steamrolled

if bush is shut down, sc can STILL steamroll texas (see ou last year if you think im full of shit)

You don't think teams have gone after Young before? How arrogant are the SC bandwagon that they think every coach in the Big 12 is an idiot and hasn't targeted Young. Young doesn't run half as much as he should and can. Young has been shut down before and limited to low numbers, and what is texas record? Oh wait never mind SC fans believe they are the only undefeated team going for a 5 peat.

USC is a great team and deserves accolades. But the nightly USC blow job by ESPN has gotten ridiculous. You would think USC is playing against themselves. And this nightly "USC v The World" deal is really dumb. They havent even won this year's title yet, and wouldnt even beat last year's USC team. Down here the network is now called "USCPN."

As for Young, he is running far less this year by design. I think he will run more v USC. I also think you will see some more option game.

That was one game.

Crazy shit can happen in one game.

USC was not THAT much better than OU. If you think so, you aren't very bright. Seriously.

I was just watching espn again, I love how the guy on the right shit a brick when the coach in the middle said he thinks Texas has a very good chance against SC. The guy just looked at him like it was the stupidest thing. I think Texas oppenents have been playing pretty well in the bowls myself.

Texas can beat USC.Texas has a better defense and the offense will score. USC almost got beat twice this year and only beat Arizona St by 10, and we have all seen what great dee they have. Rutgers is scoring at will. Texas is getting no respect.

ASU was a different team then, they had prepared all year for that game and were so pumped up in the first half and they crashed in the secon. SC did beat ASU by 10 but that was only because ASU threw a desperate pass at the end of the game that was picked off and ran it in.

I am more impressed by Kansas play against Houston, because Texas handled Kansas. And lets not forget Nevada beat Fresno St. which gave SC all they could handle, and nevada barely beat UCF. Its tough to tell this early on, I think a huge indication wil be OSU/ND and Okla/Oregon. ASU has bad D no doubt but blitzed every play against SC and effectively got to lienhart.Texas better do the same if they want to win.

Those games wont give an indication about anything realting to the Rose Bowl. That kind of thinking is flawed in too many ways to even engage a discussion...

Right, I love how people take a meaningless bowl game and try to base there play on it. The great thing is we will all find out on the 4th.

There is a guy who has been capping for over 20 years and he has a +.700 record in college bball and all he ever uses is the teams each team plays and how they match up against other teams. I dont know if anybody knows of him, he is pretty popular i came across him on espn or yahoo sports.

On another note i was wondering if you guys think that early conference results in bowl games has any indication on how the later bowls in the same conference will perform? Or are they completely unrelated?

So Cal
If he hits 70% consistently in any sport for 20 years, why is this guy working for espn or yahoo? And what does college bb have to do with college fb?

I'm with Sun Tzu. You can't play the comparison game in bowls because it's so different.

The long layoff, some teams wanting to be there, others bored becasue they're back in the same bowl again, suspensions, etc.

The regular season has a ryhthum (can't spell) and consistency that disapppears in the bowls. To me, it's easier to 'cap during the reg season than the bowls.

Good luck all.

Texas runs their offense through Vince Young. Stop YOUNG and Texas Offense isn't potent.

USC doesn't run their offense through anybody. They run it through EVERYBODY.

LEINART @QB
BUSH + WHITE @RB
JARRET + SMITH @WR
BYRD @TE
KIRTMAN + HANCOCK @FB (pass catching)
Great pass + run blocking OL (physical too)

That is USC's offense. These players can and have dominated games. Every one of them. All are playmakers. More importantly, all are proven players. They have done it repeatedly. Most importantly, all are experienced players.

You cannot say the same for Texas offense. Texas has great talent around Young but nobody special. Nobody proven in big games. Not the same caliber playmakers USC has on offense. Only area Texas O outclasses USC O is a mobile QB. Which is a scary dimension. That is why USC has to take YOUNG out of the game. Easier said than done.

Some examples..........
Against UCLA Leinart was emotionally off his game yet USC dominated on ground with BUSH + WHITE. Against Oklahoma last year Bush couldn't run the ball early but White dominated the ground game from the start. Against ND White couldn't run the ball well but Bush dominated the ground game. Last years OB Smith had 3 TD's and he is USC's #2 WR. Hidden behind all of this is the solid play from USC's FB's at catching the ball out of backfield. USC FB's are capable of catching 10-20 yard passes. Don't ever forget the USC TE. VERY EXPLOSIVE! USC TE #'s dropped because of too many weapons. Lastly, after you got that all taken care of, you can't forget BUSH catching balls out of the backfield like a WR. Or better yet, lining up at RB and splitting out to WR! Texas BETTER be disciplined and never line up a LB with Bush. NEVER!

Leinart just happens to be a QB who has experience, plays his best ball in big games, can read defenses, call audibles, and make quick reads/decisions on 3 step drops.

I think Mark May knows what he is talking about!

well I geuss Mark May and everyone will br right if the stats sheet looks like Young + 350 yards everyone else on "Youngs team" - 25 yards.

I dont see how this turned into a "does SC have any offense?" thread, you dont need to go over the list of SC players that have caught wide open passes scott, and we all know about reggie bush. Texas offense runs through Vince Young same way Georgias goes through Shockely, or OSU through Troy Smith in that they are mobile Qbs and they threaten the run.
People think Texas has a West Virginina offense in that all Texas does is run draws or get thier QB on the outside. Some teams I will grant that you have to stop one player or one position at least. But Texas has #3 offense in the country. So if 1 player is the reaosn for the #3 offense then i dont see how he isn't the landslide favorite for player of the year.

That being said, Bush deserved Heisman because with out him SC would be 9-3 playing against Northwestern. But give Texas some credit, they didn't get to where they are JUST becuase Vince Young is their QB.
