Is the End Near for Fast-Food Workers?

http://www.msn.com/en-us/money/comp...food-workers/ar-AAnxjGR?li=AAn4eAA&ocid=HPDHP

Wendy's (NASDAQ: WEN) has become the latest fast-food chain to partially replace its order-taking employees with a digital alternative. The company plans to add self-ordering kiosks at 1,000 locations by the end of the year, and executives noted during an analyst/investor day earlier this month that one benefit will be reducing labor costs.
Chief Information Officer David Trimm also noted that kiosks would allow the company to serve more people during busier times. He said the kiosks pay for themselves in less than two years.

They are looking to improve their automation and their labor costs, and this is a good way to do it," Darren Tristano, vice president with Technomic, a food-service research and consulting firm, told The Associated Press. "They are also trying to enhance the customer experience. :mj07:Younger customers prefer to use a kiosk." Trimm said during the analyst/investor day that "... everybody, whether you're a millennial or not, is now expecting to interact with brands via digital channels."

There's a Mickey D's near me that has the best drive-thru window girl of any fast food place anywhere. She's not very pretty, wears thick glasses and has an overbite. But she is one neat, cool kiddo! Personality plus!
If Mickey D's was wise, they'd find a place for her in their front office. I would almost guarantee everyone would be happier and work better because of her. Kinda' wish I knew something about her parents.

All this is going to do is piss the driver off who's behind the person ordering. At the end of the day your food coming out right depends on the person making the food. I can only imagine how many idiots fuck up their food when ordering only to cause even more delays in the lines.

Automation is/was coming anyway regardless of wage amount. Trends going towards online shopping which is more for reasons of convenience and saving of time. The hassle of traffic, crowds, etc. People who are really just anti-social. Still, there will be people who like the social interaction. Grocery company I work for is taking out self checkouts in california. Go figure considering in a few years the minimum wage will be $15. Flip side of that will be fewer baggers however and the ones we do still schedule will be getting carts and doing sweeps/go backs.
I doubt universal income will happen here anytime soon but you never know. They do have something in Alaska already due to the natural resources there but do not know anything about how much and what effect it has.

I hate the people in self-checkouts who shopped for a family of 10. There should be a damn limit for self checkout. Those bagging areas are only so big and it takes forever.
