1995
Oct. 26: The Arena Football League awards Houston Rockets owner Leslie L. Alexander an expansion franchise for the City of Houston.
Dec. 5: The expansion team hires John Paul Young as its first head coach and general manager.
1996
Jan. 23: The franchise introduces itself as the Texas Terror and unveils its ?Frankenstein? logo.
April 27: The Terror lose their inaugural game, falling 36-24 to the Minnesota Fighting Pike at the Summit.
July 22: Quarterback Robert Hall becomes the first player in team history to receive the Wilson MVP of the Week.
Sept. 20: Head Coach and General Manager John Paul Young is relieved of his duties following the Terror?s 1-13 inaugural season.
Oct. 31: Texas Terror hire Dave Ewart as the second head coach and general manager in team history.
1997
Dec. 5: The Terror change franchise name, logo and colors. The Houston ThunderBears are introduced to the Arena Football League.
1998
June 8: ThunderBears offensive specialist Robert Hall becomes the first player in Arena Football history to collect 1,000 yards passing and 1,000 yards receiving.
July 15: ThunderBears wide receiver/defensive back Rodney Blackshear is named the Tinactin Ironman of the Week after collecting six receptions for 61 yards and one touchdown to go along with one interception and five kick returns for 73 yards.
Aug. 20: Rodney Blackshear is named to All-Arena First Team at wide receiver/defensive back, which is in addition to his selection to the Tinactin All-Ironman Team.
1999
May 24: Lloyd Hill, one of the players to have been with Houston since the franchise?s inception, is traded to New England for defensive specialist Larry Jones.
July 23: The ThunderBears become the first team in AFL history to have five receivers with 50-or-more receptions in a single season. The team?s top five receivers in 1999 go on to finish with the following totals: Robert Hall (108), Terence Davis (75), Ben Bronson (69), Rodney Blackshear (59) and Bernard Holmes (58).
July 30: Clint Dolezel?s performance against Albany helps him set AFL single-season records for completions (374) and yards (4,336), surpassing Mike Pawlawski?s marks from the 1997 campaign (351 completions and 4,272 yards). Robert Hall, who caught 13 passes for 169 yards and four TDs against the Firebirds, sets the team marks for receptions (108), yards (1,383) and TD catches (32) in a season.
2000
April 22: Ben Bronson moves to offensive specialist with Robert Hall?s shift to quarterback. Bronson goes on to record 202 yards receiving against the Nashville Kats, becoming the second Houston player to record 200 yards in a game (first: Robert Hall, 202 yards, 5/1/98 at Nashville).
May 26: Robert Hall earns AFL Co-Player of the Week by completing 26-of-41 passes for 376 yards and eight TDs in a 58-57 win in overtime vs. the Grand Rapids Rampage.
Oct. 17: As one of Coach Thonn?s first duties, he resigned free agent Robert Hall, the former Texas Tech standout, who has been a quarterback and receiver in the Arena Football League. Hall ranks as the ThunderBears? all-time leading receiver and is second on the franchise?s career charts for passing.
2001
Feb. 16: ThunderBears are sold to the Arena Football League. The AFL?s Board of Directors approve the purchase and operation by the league of the Houston franchise in a joint announcement by AFL Commissioner David Baker and Houston Rockets Chief Financial Officer Marcus Jolibois. The team will play all its games away from Houston and will play as many of it?s previously scheduled home games at neutral sites around the country.
