Have to keep things somewhat tidy as Im not 100% going into today. Lots of rest and drugs (OTC) have limited some handicapping time for this college football card, but we will push ahead regardless of sickness.
Doesn't matter. Sports handicappers can't be bargained with. They can't be reasoned with. They don't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And they absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead.
Wake Forest -2
Much of the ?novelty advantage? of Navy?s triple-option spread is lost when the Midshipmen face Wake Forest, as this will be the fourth meeting between the two teams in the last 2+ years. The Demon Deacons are big enough up the middle to contain Navy?s bread-and-butter dive plays, and experienced enough on the edges to prevent many long gainers on the outside, forcing the Middies to the air more than they like. And, with more throwing, the clear edge goes to WF sr. QB Riley Skinner. He had a rough time last week vs. Clemson?s athletic back seven (#14 Pass Eff D), but should do much better vs. the smaller, slower Navy secondary (#90) that has ironically yielded 90 points in the three previous meetings vs. the Deacons.
Utah St/LaTech OVER 53
This is simply a math play as this total is off more than 2 TDs according to my numbers. Both these teams have awful pass defenses, but Utah St's is ranked higher simply because ppl run all over them and dont have to pass. Nevada passed for over 19 yds per comp last week and that tells us all we need to know. Did I mention that these two average giving up 200 ypg on the ground? Weather is a non factor up in Logan today and these teams both have big play potential. Should see scoring in the mid to high 60s.
Oklahoma -7
Classic case of buy low / sell high market research here. Kansas is who I thought they were. The Sooners struggled last week because they were unable to run versus Texas, that wont be the case today. Oklahoma is simply in a different class than the Colorado team that the Jayhawks just lost to. Defensively they allow almost 2.0 ypc less and the secondary allows 8% fewer completions.
The difference is that Kansas' defense is a joke.
Quick, name the best team that #24 ranked 5-1 Kansas has beaten? S.Miss? Iowa St? Puhleeze.
Knowing his team is in for a serious battle this week, Reesing had high praise for the Oklahoma defense, "I think it is (the best defense). I think from top to bottom on their defensive personnel size-wise, athleticism and the way they play, I think we've got the biggest challenge ahead of us."
