Looking better & better everyday......

-- Jerry Rice left the Oakland Raiders on Wednesday to be with his ill father in Mississippi, and might miss the team's game against the New York Jets on Sunday.

"That's the place for him to be, because family is most important," Raiders coach Jon Gruden said. "We've got to plan for him not being here. If there's any way for him to be here, he will."

Gruden also said kicker Sebastian Janikowksi was checked into a hospital for cellulitis, a swelling condition, in his kicking foot.

Oakland Raiders defensive tackle Darrell Russell cleaned out his locker Wednesday and left for the rest of this season and all of the next one after a drug suspension. Russell, who tested positive for the club drug Ecstasy, will not eligible to play again until Jan. 2, 2003. The 2002 regular season is out because NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue turned down an appeal. The suspension was first reported Dec. 2 by SportsLine.com's Jay Glazer, pending Russell's appeal.

Looks very tempting.

I think the Jets can beat the Raiders, but their running game has to get in gear early on to open up the passing game. The Raiders are very good at disguising their coverages down the field and with the young receivers (Coles and Moss) I think the Raiders hold an advantage.

If C. Martin gets on track and the Raiders fall behind early I can see the Jets winning this game.

both of these are perfoming pretty bad. anything can happen, but why even bother?

by logic????, both being so badly equal, the home team should prevail.

personally, i would look at buff and kc for straight upsets, with both visitors charged up against weak contenders.

Pep: You are right. I am a long time Jet fan but I learned years ago not to bet their games. The team can't be handicapped. They blow out strong opponents and lose to weak ones. They play down to their opponent's level and up to their opponent's level. They cost me more money than any other team in the NFL. I don't touch their games any more.

I'm going to take the raiders personally. No way this team loses 3 in a row. The Jets are not very good at all, they WILL NOT win this game and they won't make the playoffs. A play on the jets would be very risky at best.

FYI: Rice will start, anyone's guess as to where his mind will be. But since he's starting and he always has been a true professional, I would expect his typical output.

Look for Oakland to run with Wheatley more this weekend.
