Jack I hope they are paying you hansomely for the pop-ups, as most people find these very anoying. Business is business I guess, but I hate to see you sell out. (Not that I'm going to quit coming here or anything) :(

Popups are so annoying that I think almost no one reads them anymore, and have lost their effectiveness as a means of advertising. The only reason I took time to read this one is beacuse I was so shocked to see it here. Yes, I know there are pop-up blockers, but with the sites I frequent I have never needed it.

I don't mean to slam you Jack, after all, this IS a business. - sigh-

Cheers Jack - :toast:

Well I must be confused because I keep getting the gain sportsbook popups and I have NEVER been to ANY sportsbook websites on this computer, only this site. (I use my work computer for sportsbook surfing) Sorry to wrongly accuse you, Jack. I'm gonna get to the bottom of this!

I have obviously been hit with adware, it was just an amazing coincidence becuase:

1. Everytime I clicked a link on your site, some "Gain" popup kept coming up touting "Low Juice".

2. I have never been to any sportsbook sites on this machine.

3. The only open program is IE and its on your site.

I'm going to look through my open processes and find the offending adware program. I'll try to get a screenie of it next time it happens and post it, but its nothing to worry about IMO.

Thanks for the quick relpies Jack. ;)

The free Ad-Aware program will almost always get rid of this crap. Download from:

www.lavasoftusa.com

You might also look at your control panel and add/remove programs to see if something rogue installed itself. Look particularly for something called Gator.

Don't ever download the program that adds stuff to your emails. It comes with something called a "Hotbar" and you will want to throw your moniter out the window with this thing. One of the files associated with it takes up 65 MB of space.

I have gotten the pop ups for casinos at many different sites and never gotten one from MJ's.

Gator Advertising and Information Network (GAIN). GAIN occasionally displays various forms of pop up ads in a separate window on users' computer screens. These GAIN ads are displayed based on the interests of the computer user as reflected by their web surfing behavior and are not sponsored or endorsed by the web pages being viewed. The GAIN name and/or distinguishes GAIN ads from other ads.

At the risk of repeating myself ..

forget IE and use something which builds upon it ..

www.crazybrowser.com

all windows are tabs .. there is a history for last 2 weeks of sites u went to .. if there is a group of fav sites u like save the group and just click on it to load all of them again ..

inbuild pop up killer .. .

in other words .. XCELLENT :)

Cheers !!!

You guys getting these GAIN ads must have downloaded something from another site somewhere. A few months back I downloaded Morpheus onto my home PC and then the GAIN ads started coming inevery time i went to a website. And they all were based on the topic of the page I was looking at.
As soon as I got rid of Morpheus and KAzaa the GAIN ads have disappeared.

Yea, I figured it was something simlar, but I don't have either of those programs. These marketing people are getting too smart! Now we get selective pop-ups based off the site we are currently surfing!

Stuman, I am no computer expert, but here is something you might try if you know what to look for.

Start=>Run=>Type in msconfig=>then click the "Start Up" tab on the right side. If you see something that you know shouldn't be in there, uncheck the box. Knowing what to uncheck is the key as I was looking for the "hotbar" program and found it easily.

Then go to "My Computer" on your destop, double click "C", double click "Program Files", and then delete everything in the file that had the same name as the box you unchecked in the "Start Up" tab.

Don't delete anything you aren't sure about as this could screw something else up, but atleast this might give you a start in trying to find out why you keep getting the pop-ups. I was looking for everything associated with the "Hotbar" program and once I did what I just expained, and then ran my Ad-aware, the pop-ups were a thing of the past.

Good Luck and hope this helps.

Found the little s.o.b.

It is bundled with the Divx codec I downloaded. I downloaded the free codec, so I'm stuck with it unless I want to uninstall Divx. At least it is giving me sportsbook pop-ups. :(

Mystery solved...Thanks for the suggestions.
