Oh anyways

Oh anyways

I am also looking for a name for my female JRT.
I understand that they are 1 of smartest dogs in the world.
Picking her up a week from tuesday shes (6 weeks old) for 3 bills w/ papers. Not bad for a dog that goes for 500-650.

Fletch suggested the name Roid cause she gonna be a pain in the butt.
Haven't got the biggest yard around but next door has a great pool she can use, when the neighbors are gone. ;)

Thanks Fletch, brother & njsf25g for your info.

I have a friend that got one as a puppy and they are the most entertaining dogs I've ever seen. This dog would put on a show for us everytime we came over. He would get so excited when people would show up because that meant more play time for him.

It's almost like the dog was on speed every hour of the day because he would run around the house like a blur and jump around on everyone's lap for some extra affection. It was also funny when my friend tried to spank him for doing something bad, he could never catch him.

I would only recommend that you keep him outdoors because they are just too damn hyper and need plenty of space to run around. They're also known to tear up furniture. They love to dig and he would be on the couch or carpet trying to dig a hole but of course never succeeded. I heard that is because they were used to hunt fox or something in whatever country they were first bred in. The entertainment value alone is worth getting one but they need plenty of attention and exercise. They're probably comparable to having a kid around the house.

have you had dogs before?

If you were the one saying something about getting a house dog, then you're in for it.

Don't think they're good house dogs because they're small. I have a 100 pound Akita thats a great house dog. He's just like a rug you need to feed from time to time.

jrt's are smart dogs. smart dogs get bored. bored dogs mess shit up. you get a bulldog, and you leave for work, he just realizes you left when you walk back in 9 hours later.

If she doesn't get a LOT of exercise and attention she will mess your house and your yard up. I have a border collie that gets an hour of HARD exercise per day, and he recovers in 5 minutes and starts bringing me a ball after we get home. he lies on the floor staring at me when I watch TV, and bolts to the door EVERY time I stand up.

don't be like that other guy that got rid of his dog after 5 years. That's not good for the dog or you, so don't get it unless you're ready to really put the work in for the life of the dog. I've had lots of dogs and love them, but if you can't give a dog proper attention, you're best not to get one at all.

dogs are much needier than cats. they're pack animals and form very strong bonds to their humans. they don't like being left alone. they're much happier and healthier with regular exercise and attention. Ours get walked twice a day every day. And by walked, I mean RUN. chasing balls, sticks, swimming, playing with other dogs. that obsessive behavior of JRT's is cute, but its what makes them terrors and its not something you can get out of them with any kind of training.

if a dog is obsessive like that and doesn't get what she needs, sometimes they'll just bite and scratch themselves till they have raw spots.

that's all from me.

MONK (did ya work today?) Vikings

I believe they originated from England
(not for sure tho) and yes they hunt foxes, hmm maybe we will get along just fine. ;)

She will get plenty of exercise (I'll teach her to use my 1200.00 treadmill that I have used maybe twice) Seriously Fletch & I live close to many good parks and attention wise my 3 boys will keep her busy.

Thinking of naming her "Crank" As far as discipline goes I dont think can out run my blow gun :nono:

And Monk would you keep your kid outside?
Wait ! Don't answer that.

Shrimp

I have kept dogs most of my life. Have never let a dog go, they have always died with me :(

I actually know people that have a large apt who house 2 of these canines. Not fair for the dogs by any means.

Thanks guyz for the much appreciated info

As I stated in other thread I have two.An older male and 2 year old female. The older male(7 yrs.)is very mellow now.My younger female is just the opposite.Very smart dogs. It's like they can read your mind after awhile. They were breed to be hunters. So if you have any small animals where you live(mice, squirrels, woodchucks)and they manage to confront one of these animals. They will never give up!!They have been known to enter a woodchuck hole and fight to the death.Even if it means there own life.

They need lots of attention and lots of room to run.A good site for info is the JRTCA(Jack Russell Terrier Culb of America).http://www.terrier.com/ This site will have all the info you need.Hope this helps you out.
