Anyone from there or familar with this place? I might be traveling there for up to six month on work assignment. Just trying to get a feel for what this place is like.

...a smaller sized city in no man's land between nashville and memphis. you'll only be about 90 minutes outside of memphis, so the short drive to the bluff city wouldn't be out of the question. i'm not from jackson, nor have i ever stayed there, but i remember the one oasis of a semblance of a city between nashville and memphis because i always used to stop there for gas and stuff on my way back and forth between nashville and memphis. that has to be the most boring stretch of road on the planet and jackson is the only thing resembling a city between the two.... unless, of course, you count Buck Snort, Tennessee.

I think Taoist pretty much summed up my opinion as well. I don't know what part of Cali you are coming from but I think it's safe to say you will experience a little culture shock. It's in the middle of nowhere and nothing special about Jackson at all. I would not want to stay there for five days much less five months but then again, I don't know what kind of bills you're getting for going and I am a big city guy. Good luck...

take a good long look at the bottom of your shoe, should give you a pretty good idea of all it has to offer. Course it could be worse, could be Cincinnatti.

BTW, if anyone was from there it isn't like they would be able to read what you posted let alone reply, what are they going to do scratch a message in the dirt with their extra long toenails hoping you will flyover in a crop duster with supplies for the tradin post and see the message? Hey I have an idea, when you get there ask everyone if they know of a good dentist in town.....LOL...when they look at you like an idiot then ask 'em where you can get some good liquor and an R.V....friends for life.
Also in case you were wondering the reason their toenails are so long is so they can run up muddy river banks.

...yeah, the extra long toenails also help out when they go "toeing for muscles" in the Tennessee River.
