I know superbook is going the other way. Kust my take on this game.Jaspers -4 over Iona.Iona is in a funk.They are the ex-MAC champs that are in total confusion.Lost their 1st six,then got things together and now have fallen apart again.The reason is two fold.Their defense is terrible.They cannot stop teams.The siena's ,marists,fairfieds,and Riders are scoring almost 80 pts vs them.But their biggest problem is shooting.They don't have one starter that can shoot a "jumper" from 12-15 ft out.No one,Nada.Norris who could was suspended 1st and then kicked off the team.he was their top shooter but Woffard his replacement is now their only guy who can shoot.And he is 5'10 and pudgy so a quick defender on him and he's in trouble.Brown the Iona other gd cannot shoot at all.The good news is he thinks he can.Ruland his coach does too but he is 17-74 with a 23% FG avg.
Wilson the top MAC player is terrible.Jenkins their center has no moves to the basket.he is big and strong but he fouls out all the time.Iona has no bench.Losing Norris their top assits man and 2nd leading scorer has really hurt their depth.Manhattan started out their season on fire and now has come back to earth.They already beat Iona at home by 11 a month ago.But that was when they were playing in the ozone.Jaspers have some decent road wins over Siena 5,Loy=Md 5,Fordham 10,and their recent loss to marist with some home cooking by 2.I like the jaspers here because of their 3 gds.Green is a speedster and can score.Flores is avg 19 and is consistent.he drives and can pull up.Jackette is pretty solid.Inside the paint Holmes is the 6'7 bruiser that is a double-double man.Benton and Johnson are all 6'6 and take up a lot of room inside.Iona doesn't have the bodies.Fields is Iona's top player inside but I think Holmes is to physical.
Iona owns this series esp. in New Rochelle.The past 4 or 5 yrs they have sent the jaspers packing down the Hutchinson River Parkway back to the Bronx.In case your worried about travel fatigue the Bronx campus is 25 minuts away.In NY traffic 2 hrs.I'm sure Gonzalez has video tapes on the bus ride of their past visits to NR.If you play trends then take Iona.ATS this yr Iona is only 2-5 at home and Manhattan 2-3 away.Jaspers are 14-3 and 6-2 in the MAC.Iona is 8-12 and 5-4 in the MAC.They have common opponents.Rider beat them both at home by the same amount of pts.MC did beat siena on the road by 5 where Iona lost at home to them by 9.
I like the Jaspers because they have 2 gds that can score,better inside game,and don't turn the ball over.Iona can't shoot from the outside,inside game is suspect,defense is bad and I forgot to mention.They turn the ball over 20 times a game.Jaspers get on track again as Bobbies boys get a comfortable road win pressing the gaels. It's a strong play tonite.GL
