Anyone here in tune with the jewelry marketplace?

I went to an auction today to a pretty reputable auction house in search of some artwork to hang on my walls and they had jewelry there too.

Wife is always nagging I never buy her anything so I splurged.

Bidding was nonresponsive with the audience so steals were being made. I picked up a pendant necklace.

6.5 carat Emerald in the center, surrounded by 1.41 ct of diamonds.
14k gold chain and mounting piece for the jewels as well.
I had it appraised by AIG this afternoon and it came in at $21,225.00. Got high marks in tone and clarity and all that stuff too.
I had the high bid of $3k and took it home.

Now, common sense tells me to sell this sucker and take the cash and buy a set of top notch diamond earrings that she REALLY wants and then keep the rest of the cash.
Anybody got any advice on how to turn this into cash or trade profit?
Do I go to a local jeweler and offer a trade + cash back, or just sell it outright? I know I wont get the full appraisal value for it, but what should I expect if I goto a dealer? 60%?

any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

On the course!
I wanna know why women have to have fake nails, fake lips, fake tits, a fake face, but insist on real diamonds?

Sell the thing, and head to Vegas with the boys!

I know guys, I am all about selling this... my challenge is:

WHere can I sell it to make the most? and do it relatively quickly?
Can I walk into a jewelry shop and offer to sell it to them at 50% appraised value and expect them to bite?
or do i go to a pawn shop, or what?

definitely NOT a pawn shop, they will only give you pennie on the dollar, if you want FAST, a jewelers would be your best bet, if you want more $$, you best bet is to sell privately.

marine find a reputable high end jewelry store in your area. If they won't offer u a price they may sell it for you at a fee, but much better than a pawn shop.
If this doesn't work get my addy from MJ I can help

Thanks Handi, thats kinda what i was thinking about is to get a jewel shop to sell it for a cut of the price.

Heck, for something this size and this nice and as low as I paid anything I am getting on it is profit.
I called one of those ads we all see in the paper "WE BUY JEWELRY and WACTHES and crap. TOP DOLLAR PAID"

Well, I dunno about top dollar... he told me I would be lucky to get even 10% the appraised value selling it like this.

I even stopped at the Harley Davidson shop and tried to trade it straight up for a HOG. Tip: Guys in jeans and boots with scruffy beards named Tiny have no use for jewels.

I asked my straight laced neighbor if there was a local fence he knew off. (I am new here)

He pointed to his backyard chain link fence.

More like 50 -60 % derpending on location and rep of dealer.

I have a friend who sells stones. He is the guy that walks through the airport with 4 security guards around him at all times.

Bought my wife a stone from him at his company cost 6ct diamond stone only for 2000
