WOW! WOW! WOW!
Triple Wow!
1. Golf lines at thegreek.com, :142hail: :142hail: :142hail: stepping in and filling a huge breach in a desolate/desperate/depressing landscape for golf punters in "the land of the free." Out of the blue comes a rock solid out for legitimate e.w. wagers on the full field of a co-sanctioned European Tour event - a startling development that has been bringing sighs and almost tears with my frequent smiles and giggles as I think and write about it. WOW! I can only hope it lasts (I read Stan's post on a trial through The Masters), and maybe includes plans for in-running options before the 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounds.
2. A play worthy of my first wager at my new favorite book - Richard Finch(80/1) e.w. @ thegreek.com. A promising young player, IMO, who seems to me priced well below his class in this field. Finch arrived on the scene with a distinguished freshman campaign in 2005, but slipped in 2006 after a promising start to his sophomore season. My first impulses on his solid play in front of the weekend cameras proved correct, as research confirms a 4-0 record over two seasons at converting Top 10 finishes into Top 5 returns. That alone would be sufficient for me at this price if he had yet to post a score all season. But in fact, Finch has made an obvious committment to this early leg of the Tour, which already includes a 16th place finish in a national open against a stellar field, posting 66 in two rounds out of eight, a hole-in-one, the only bad number posted was his first round of the season in which winds played havoc with many scores, and closed his last outing with birdies on 5 of his last 7 holes. Larger than usual. WOW.
3. A reason to watch and study and grind and read and set the VCR and get excited about stumbling over some little thing and get nervous and cheer and curse and participate and do what I like to do. WOW!
Other plays . . .
Hennie Otto(40/1) e.w. @ thegreek.com
- - I believe Otto plays regularly at the club, which is at altitude and looks country club fine, and it's my experience that country club golf offers numerous instances in which a player with rich local knowledge can acquire a pussycat feel for an otherwise stern test.
Andrew Raitt(125/1) e.w. @ the greek.com
- - I thought he was done, but now he's back. I'm at a loss to figure out why his respectable stats merit a 2nd place ranking in the tour-tips.com "all-around/composite" rating, but that's the reason I'm not inclined to pass on the play, which would make a great story early in the season.
