It looks like Roy Jones Jr will step up in weight to meet John Ruiz on March 31 at the Thomas and Mack. Jones is a shrewd promoter of himself - as Ruiz is probably one of the few heavies with any sort of name that Jones can beat. Jones will give up 30 lbs or so to the rugged, ragged and foul prone Ruiz, but his speed should be enough to win this one. Would love to see Jones fight someone good - the guy's arrogance has always annoyed me. But you have to give him credit for smarts. Do any of you think Ruiz would have a chance?

I'm not sure exactly how this fight will play out. It would seem that Jones' speed would be enough for him to get a win but this is quite a big move up in class. There is very little talent (and money) in the light heavyweight division. Most of those guys move up to heavyweight if they can. How much weight will Jones be adding? He will likely lose a little speed as a heavyweight -- which will still make him twice as fast as everyone else. The question is, will Jones slow down enough to take a few shots? If so, he may find that he can't hang with the big boys. The fight I would like to see is Jones vs. Chris Byrd...maybe, if Jones can get by Ruiz.

speakin` of byrd

could holifield have named a worse opponent than byrd?....holi was to good a technician for the now exposed rahman....but byrd?....an old holi is not the same as a 6` 7' klitschko....these guys aren`t that much different size wise....and based on holi`s work rate in the ruiz debacle`s,this should be a slam dunk....i actually think this line has a chance to go down.....,,,i`m salivating....lemme run and check the byrd by decision prop....g.l......let me throw a future at ya`....a hedge bet....markus beyer by decision over lucas(+310)....lucas straight up( -130).....being fought in beyer`s backyard(leipzig germany)....beyer can`t punch....lucas not a big puncher either....a good chance beyer could get a decision in hometown....worse case scenario is lucas wins and if you hedge correctly, you win a few,,,,if beyer wins by decision, you make a nice piece of change...g.l.

Garden, will have a write up soon on Lucas-Beyer but i can say you think the same way as i do on this fight! I know Eric, very nice guy, had the chance to talk to him few times and he will be ready for this fight but as you pointed out, it will be in Germany, Beyer's home and i don,t trust judges over there...

i personally think lucas is the better fighter....i think he`s stronger and appears to be getting better as he ages.....we both know he has an iron chin...but in leipzig germany?....if beyer is breathing at the end of 12,he has a chance to steal the decision....all things being equal, lucas wins and i collect just a few dollars...but,if things are a little wacky, lucas could lose on points...don`t think for a second that beyer stops lucas(unless via a cut-that`s always the wildcard)....gl....btw,what`s your take on the upcoming shamrock grudge match?

On the lake. Setting hooks!
I like Shamrock. Just hope the time away messing around with wrestling won't hurt. Also believe the Ruiz/Jones fight will be a track meet by Jones. He will out & out run the whole night. Scary fight to call as Jones I believe will be the judges favorite.
