ATL SF Josh Smith has been SUSPENDED for tonight's game vs. BKN -- for conduct detrimental to the team.

Line opened at atl -4.5 now at atl -3.

I am riding the hawks in this one.
Nets on a 7game winning streak, it comes to an end tonight in a big way.

I dunno - Atlanta has lost 7 of their last 10 games SU - they are playing like garbage - I have a hard time with the idea that - wow, they played really bad last time out and they were embarrassed - so they are going to come out all gangbusters and cover the short number against Brooklyn. I guess I don't know if they know how to come out all gangbusters vs Brooklyn - there has to have been a point in the last ten games where they told themselves - this is it - we've got to play better - in fact I read about the coach having a meeting with players about their recent performances and what we got was 58 points.

I guess my point is, I don't think Atlanta can right the ship vs a Brooklyn team that is having a good time right now.

I like the points - I like the streak (Brooklyn)

ivabign - I don't disagree with your synopsis. That is a different point of view, and I like going with hot over not teams as well. But going bigger picture, this is how I look at it - the Bulls were embarrassed by losing to a league bottom feeder in their own gym, and they took it out defensively on the struggling Hawks. Brooklyn is on a nice winning streak, but they have only beat two teams in this streak that were any good. The Thunder were in a real bad spot when they played them (I actually took the Nets SU to win that game) and the Pacers were also in a bad spot (I also bet the Nets that game). Not trying to sound coy, just saying that I remember both those games and the situations well, because I bet on them.

I was going back and forth on this game, but when I saw the coach suspended Smith, I bet it. That may be the catalyst the Hawks need. History suggests that after very bad offensive performances, teams respond. Teams as home favorites after shooting less than 30% from the field in a game they lost are 25-9 SU and 22-12 ATS (average line -5). I think this is a must win for Atlanta.

I like this Nets team a whole lot more than I like the Hawks. You could even say I dislike the Hawks, a lot. I won't be surprised if the Nets upset them. Given recent track history though, the line almost seems "too" easy to take the Nets, eh??

Good luck, I have been known to be wrong more than once, haha!

HH - I definitely understand your point of view - and there is a very real chance that Atlanta plays well vs Brooklyn - I think I may still take the points here. But a caveat, if Atlanta comes out with determination in this spot - I will look seriously at their next game (@ Brooklyn 1/18) and look for a major letdown - as the number will probably be lower with the recent win (the game we are talking about) and the team at full strength.
