I had the great pleasure over the weekend to attend a Meet and Greet with Jim Gray, former federal judge and VP candidate for the Libertarian party.

I do not agree with him on all issues but I am impressed by his common sense approach and complete candor on the subjects. There is no bullshit coming from the man.

I had breakfast with him on Saturday morning and then drove him to Toledo, Ohio so he could make his next appearance.

Good ad for Johnson / Gray 2012.

The problem with Johnson, and I don't care if he can walk on water, is that he won't get 2% of the vote.

Unless and until he organizes a national party like the Bull Moose, Populist or Dixiecrats, he's just a fart in the wind, and a small one at that.

Don't get me wrong, Johnson might be a great guy, but he needs to do the hard work to become a player.

Duff: This is the mindset of millions of people and it fucks it all up. Everyone has this defeatist attitude about third parties when it should be an aggressive attitude against the two main/same parties. If people could find the strength to part with their meaningless vote, the third party could actually start to gain some traction. It isn't just about a third party candidate winning, it is about scaring the two major parties into listening to the people instead of doing whatever they want and letting us choose between them. If we could start posting 10-15%, someone will start going after those votes.....they'd be stupid not to.

So long as Johnson, Ron Paul and others choose to be minor players, that's all they will be.

To get to the 10-15% it will take for them to have influence is going to take a lot more effort than just a website and occasional speech. It's gong to take a strong grass-roots effort to motivate enough people and raise enough money.

Johnson is like Ralph Nader - a good man, maybe, but unwilling or unable so far to do the heavy lifting.

Duff:
Johnson is trying.

One thing to do - if you get a call about who you are voting for, say Governor Johnson - even if you are not going to.
Why? if he starts polling better, he will be included in the debates. All he is trying to do at this point is get a place on the stage.

Sure thing. I'll be glad to give Johnson a shout-out, but at this juncture my vote for Johnson is essentially a vote for Romney. I'll vote for Obama. Flawed? Yes, but....

I'd like to see him on the stage too. Although you and I may disagree on some details, we're alike: socially liiberal, financially conservative.

I'm just a bit more extreme: racial haters and tax cheats both deserve a bullet through the head. LOL!!!!

That's really cool. You just had more access to the VP candidate who will likely finish 3rd in the United States Presidential election, than most of us do with our local garbage commissioner.
Hey, they aren?t going to win, but there is something really exhilarating being part of something THAT important.

You are certainly getting more involved than 99.9% of Americans, and probably most of the blowhards on this board would ever deign to do.

The greatest thing is how real he is.
There was no bullshit - no grandstanding or glad-handing.
He said to the group right out front that there will be things you disagree with me on and that's ok. But this is what I believe. And I am open to hear WHY you disagree with me.

And what was also cool - most VP's are told to hide in the background.

Gary Johnson told Gray that if there is an issue that you disagree with me on, go ahead and talk about it publicly and let's start a debate on the issue.

Johnson should be coming back to Ohio but I doubt he'll be in the C-town area. If he makes it to Columbus, I'll head down there to talk with him.
