Not sure if that's how that old cats name is spelled
Our now passed on Supreme Court Judge. It's coming out he was on triple doze of pain killer last 10 years. Three a day when it should have been one. Name of drug I can't tell you because they said it. But I would never remember how to spell it. Not same stuff as Rush took, stronger Doc said. Not sure why F B I released this info. But Folks are jumping and asking questions if he had any idea what some of his rulings meant some of those years. Or if it came from some help from his clerks. They be lawyers to.
I can't find story on this. but they mention it on CNN & MSNBC. Didn't see it on Fox. But that would make sense I believe he was as right as he could be.

Do you mean William H. Rehnquist, the former Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court?

That drug he was on is called Placidyl. (Perfect name for a pain killer, don't you think?). This is old news. He was using it since 1970 for back pain, according to the FBI. His addiction became too much for him in 1981, when he was taken to George Washington Hospital where they tried to detox him.

There is no evidence that Rehnquist's Placidyl addiction prevented him from keeping up with his work.

You're right, djv. They did release some more details. The length and intensity of the addiction have been detailed in the recent FOIA release from his files.

You're also right about the law clerks every Supreme Court Justice has.

Sometimes when I read a Rehnquist opinion I can detect a subtle change in style or tone, which I attribute to its plural authorship. It happens with quite a few jurists. One section of the opinion sounds like it was written by one law clerk, and the next section sounds like it was written by another.

I think they found him running down the street in his pajamas from GW Hospital, claiming that the CIA was after him.

I'm pretty sure that drug is off the market now. Might be able to get it if you have proven intolerances to other drugs, not sure?
