Hard to believe its jump ball today..With the c-19 going around and home courts maybe not as an advantage as usual its going to be interesting..also with few pre-season scrimmages its hard to know how these teams are playing together especially with new transfers and freshmen .. So early in the season should play games lightly but thats easier said and done. The last few days have been handicapping so many teams and games. The Blue Ribbon bible I got last week and have been breaking down games .I am going to try to concentrate on Big 12 teams and the Sun conference on teams I have seen personally. I cannot give 1st hand knowledge of the MAAC since I have finally moved to Austin. I will miss my Marist games and the MAAC.. But replace it with Texas St and the Sun Conf.,
Ok St -6.5 over UTA ****
UTA plays great defense and Azore was one of the top gds I saw last yr vs Tex St. But their best player was Warren a lefty gd that could penetrate and shoot. He is gone but the other gd Griffin is good. Azore was a physical gd but Tex St was all over him the entire game. Their weakness was the front line but Ogden the coach bought in some transfers from the Juco and power 5 schools to beef up the front line. If these guys can improve their inside game UTA could be one of the better teams in the Sun Conf. They get to play Ok St at home but with the C-19 only 600 fans can see the game.
OK St has the best pt gd in the B-12.Likekele love this kid with his skinny body frame and dreds. Can score, pass rebound ,play defense etc he is electric... He didn't make pre-season all conf team. This kid could win the B-12 POY . Ok St also recruited one of the top players in the country in Cunningham at 6'8. Think the front line has Big 12 size and should control the paint . Boyton has done a good job as the coach and has recruited very well This team got hot just as the the c-19 hit.. Think they get a double digit win on the road. Their frontline of 6'8 '69 and 6'10 are to much muscle for the Mavs to handle And Azore will have a 6'5 Likekele in his face the entire game.

drexal +14over Penn St **

Best player on the court is Drez's Wynter . They have 4 starters back but they play no defense. Think Penn St lost some scorers last yr nad Sessions their best player is out

Tex -19 over Tex Rio **
Texas every year struggles with non conf games . But with Shaka saved by the c-19 virus and almost everyone back and 5 star Brown making his debut think they come out smoking tonight at the Erwin center.

Oklahoma -15.5 over UTSA **
Jumped on this line because I knew it would go up Last yr OU won 85-67. UTSA has the best scorer in in the country in Jivan who was 2nd in the bation in scoring. Wallace the other gd can score and this duo ranked No 1 in the nation is scoring. But they have no front line and there defense is suspect. OU has Doolittle who can score shoot, rebound and play defense. they also have some size inside with Manek who could play Def end for the football team . Inside they should dominate with its 6;7 athletic wings that can run the floor. They also have Gibson the North Texas 3 pt shooter as a transfer. Jivan Jackson is unstoppable..and he will get his 26-30 pts . Hold Wallace to his 18 pts and then shut the others down .. Thats what everyone did last yr in conf USA. Ironically Jivan plays just like former OU Young .. Nobody can shoot fade away 3's like this kid.. and swish but he doesn't have enough around him and Lon Kruger has gone up against many great scorers. Think OU wins this like last year by 17-20 pts .

Stanford -19 over Utah Val ***
Hofstra -1.5 over Monmouth ****
Zona st -8 over URI **

some of these lines might of changed I played them as soon as they came out. Going to the Tx St-Mary Harddins game tonight..good luck this season. Like Ok St big

wow sorry those games were cancelled .. Tx st plays mary hardins from Waco..no line on the game but I get a chance to see the Bobcats.
Spent a lot of time on Johnnies-St peter...last yr Johnnies were up winning big before Peter went on a 19-2 run to cover.. have no feel for the game.. Also Fairfield -Providence..Prov coach Cooley was the former coach at Fairfield and he left on good terms.

I made my lines up before I saw them the other day
Was way off
KSU -10 over Drake
Butler -13 over W Mich
XU -17 over Oak
Nova -12 over BC Ga Tech -8 over geo St

off by a lot on some of those..but don't have enough time to break them down
maybe the Ga Tech play looked good.. some of these might have been already cancelled thank you guys for letting me know.

Hi Box, I'm very curious as to the methodology you use to set your own lines before a single game has been played in a season. I'm always looking to improve as a capper so hope you would be willing to share how you do this.

Thanks and good luck

3 pete I always break a game down without seeing what the line is. I use my own system with a little help from some other systems .. I use home court, past performance, head to head or com-parent games, superstar, outstanding point gd ,turnovers assist ratio, rebounding, type of defense, coach and a few more. I am usually pretty close but yesterday was way off. I had Ok St -8 or -9. and they opened at -6.5 over UTA.. so if its a 3 or more pts in my favor I will take it. But even though Ok St won it was closer then I hoped. I just barley won that game. I should of played Boston College over Nova. I had it at +12 but it went off at Nova -14 I should of taken st Peter +10 over the Johnnies but passed on it. Johnnies won on a last second shot by Cole.
But the best way to really handicap is seeing each team play.. That why I loved the MAAC getting to see the Siena's Iona's Peters, right on the floor.. now its Texas St in the sun conf Also seeing Texas but although your in the gym your not sitting in row 3 . I think sometimes I throw out all my notes and go with my intuition as a former coach.. But I/m not in the caymons islands retired on beach house only a condo in Austin. Capping is hard work and you can do all the homework and systems and luck comes in.. I coached varsity basketball for 23 years. I had some great teams and lost 3 times for the NY state championship .. my nickname was " the Bud Grant of HS basketball". Not sure if any one knows what that means. But our cross town rival in HS although never beat me gave me a game every time. I could be 12-0 and them 2-10 and I would struggle and beat them by a few points. its the same in college I think. Peter tonight almost beat St Johns. St Peter is a MAAC school in Jersey City and plays in Yantelli center. A gym built in the 40's with dim lights.. None of these peter kids were recruited by the Johnnies yet many of them played AAU with the Johnnies kids. Back in 87 or 88 my star played at st Peters. They opened their season at the Meadowlands vs Seton Hall. and almost beat them. Ted Foire was the coach and allowed me in the lockeroom pre game.. he was awesome telling everyone of his kids Seton Hall never even sent you guys a letter of interest. so go out there tonight and kick there ass because they will remember your name in tomorrows box score. Damn I wanted to put a uni on and go out there.. and my kid had 15 points 12 rebounds and out played SH star who played in the NBA. So those are the intangibles that aren't in any system of capping
I do like reading other peoples posts and takes on the game.. and learn from them
Not sure if I answered your question 3 pete good luck this season
