I have a 1999 Chevy S10 ZR2 4X4 pick-up. I bought it 1.5 years ago and still owe $3000 on it. I just put $600 new tires on a few months ago. It now needs an engine. The mechanic said it will cost $1160 for labor. Is it worth getting this done with an engine from a junkyard. I'm not spending money on a Jasper as this will be around $4000 with labor and taxes. Is this wotrh getting done or should I sell it as is and take my loss. This truck is only one of 3 cars but liked it for the 4 wheel drive in the snow and hauling wood for bonfires in the back yard. The trucks body and interior are in great shape.

Why can't you have the old engine rebuilt? I would look at just installing a short block. Use your old heads and intake. Labor cost will prolly still be about the same but a short block 4.3 will not be $4000.
