Above the Clouds....
The last time I got it postponed for 6 months which coincided with the holidays. I was told trials always got cancelled around the holidays and sure enough dismissed.

What if someone is the sole earner in a household and they get stuck with a lengthy trial for couple of weeks. No work = no pay and they?re screwed!

My friend said he always throws it in the garbage and they can?t prove he received it since it?s not by registered mail with a signature. Is this correct?

In NY state it is a crime to ignore your summons.Exemptions are given for economic and hardship reasons. You have to go show up to get excused though.A one time exemption may be used too.

I liked jury duty, but at that time, my employer paid my hours, so there was no hardship. When I was summoned in 2017, I was working in Lexington. I went the first day and explained that my residence was in BG, but I was the sole household earner and working in Lex. I was excused without problem after explaining my situation.

I would never throw it in the trash and deny receipt  I think that?s a horrible idea.

It is a privilege and honor to serve on a jury. What an enlightening experience you might have. You will probably meet some citizens you might never have met otherwise. If you were a defendant(criminal or civil), wouldn't you want serious, concerned people try to fairly decide your future? Go and enjoy the process. You may or may not be chosen, but learning the judicial system is invaluable. Do the right thing!

My jury experience was very enlightening. I waited a week to be selected juror #4 and two weeks after that until they filled the jury. Trial lasted three days. The prosecution didn't provide info to defense and the guy who raped his ten year old daughter got off with 11 months served in a county jail on a plea. I imagine to save the prosecutions face and not have a mistrial. What a bunch of bullshit, waste of time and money. All this after they had a signed confession from the guy.
We were told he copped the plea, Class D third degree rape, thanked for our service and we were excused. I figured he'd get at least 7years.He was looking at a lot more.Later that day through social media I found out he was released on time served, probation, and got put on sex offender list. That's the way the justice system worked that time.
