I will definitely share some pics and videos, but truly was a cool experience every one of you would have enjoyed, and hope you do someday. My son-in-law just finished his PhD in Physics at Western Kentucky and is from there as many here know. He also ran the 400 meters in the Olympics in the early 2000's for them, so it was great to share his country and family while there. Bottom line, the people there are just like us here....care about their families, work hard to take care of them, love hanging with friends and don't give much thought to politics, although traditionally to the older set it is important. Younger people not so much.

Moscow- amazing, decorations for Christmas beyond imagination from one end of city to the other, makes NYC look like a small town in Georgia. Used Marriott points for two rooms to stay at their high end hotel on Red square, Kremlin, great restaurants, all AMAZING!! Tzar temples inside Kremlin give you chills being next to them. They LOVE AMERICANS!!! You are like royalty because of tourism they want to share. So different than we older guys can imagine it being, knowing our history with this Country. Some here can relate.

St. Petersburg- same as above but even more so. Like a Venice in Italy on a larger scale with canals. You walk in a bar and they dont order drinks, they just order the whole bottle of vodka, set in the middle of table and drink. And drink, and drink, and drink..... I stuck with wine the whole time. I had to for my sanity. The Hermitage Museum was awesome, our hotel right on the square.

New Years Eve they all open Christmas presents after Putin delivers his message to the Country at 11:55, culminating with cheers and fireworks. Then everyone, parents, kids, babies, granparents all go outside to celebrate the new year until 5-6 AM partying and fireworking and enjoying the snow and sleds and craziness. It is beyond belief, I promise. I will share more later, and figure out how to share videos you will appreciate.

How interesting Chuck..Thank You

Will be head to China for few weeks in March. Your input made me think of 1st time there and not knowing what to expect...but had same experience as you in Russia...never been treated better anywhere.
Is interesting how people make assumptions with never experiencing them. Appears you have fine son in law.
Good things happen to good people.

Be safe brother!

That's great Chuck! Thanks for sharing! When we look at maps of where we want to go next in Europe, my eye always wanders over to St Petersburg and Russia. I always wondered if they are an option or if it would be more hassle with less to take in but you've answered that.

Cheers!

Thanks Wayne, Gary, Jack, Nick. I truly do suck and will figure out videos and picture posting from my iphone 8plus, or from my computer. I just do something incorrectly, maybe kickserv can yell at me and repost the directions thread.

Nick, each place was the coolest because of time of year at each. Greece in May was just so pleasant and probably the most beautiful place I have seen overall. People were great, Santorini was beyond my expectations, and we were there just outside of peak season so prices were decent. Only hung out on the islands, not the mainland, but seeing it all from a 52' Catamaran was a must-do, along with snorkeling in the clear waters.

Moscow and St. Petersburg in the winter at Christmas were equally cool because of the unknown of what to expect, to the true liking of Americans and asking so many questions about our Country. Temps only got as low as 25-30 F which was totally bearable. The decorations as you will see on videos I have are more lavish than any city I have been in, which is why this time of year would be best. They love the Christmas/New Year holidays more than anyone and anyplace I have seen. St. Petersburg is just like Venice, situated on canals throughout, with history of the Hermitage Museum and the Tsar homes and fortresses. Amazing. More gold than I have ever witnessed. And damn, they love to drink and drink and drink. Sending you a couple videos to at least see.

And my 2 cents regarding Greece........if you go to Greece, ya gotta go to the Island of Myconos. As for Athens, go there for a couple days and catch the sites, but be warned the air pollution can get a little much at times, I had a headache most of the time I was there because of the pollution. But still worth going there to check out the sites. Also, Greece is cheap (if you do it right) you can get a good "bang for your buck" there for sure. And oh yeah, the best Seafood I have ever had was in Greece (Chalcida, Greece), yummy. Also spent quite a bit of time in a Greek hospital, but I'd skip that part, that wasn't so much fun:SIB

Oh and glad you had fun in Moscow/St. Petersburg Wineguy, looked like a fun trip, you went there at the right time for sure.
