Observations and quotes out of the mouth of N.Y. Yankee Gary Sheffield:
Sheffield all but appointed himself the Yankees' most valuable player in an interview with New York magazine, accusing reporters of distorting the truth and ruining team chemistry.
"It happens because you're white and I'm black," Sheffield said. "My interpretation of things is different. You don't see it the way I see it. You write how you understand it, how you would articulate it, not how I, as a black man, would articulate it."
These kinds of comments make me fume. :cursin: Since when can thowing a baseball, hitting a ball, catching a ball ....be interpreted as BLACK or white. Geez, it's basball for christ sakes. Guys like this continue to perpetuate the myth of racism in sports and it drives me crazy. Blacks make up around 12% percent of the overall population, yet they dominate the football squads, and they far exceed that ratio in baseball.....forget about the NBA. A guy like Sheffield dwells in the upper percentile of wage earners in the US and he finds the time to whine about his being "misunderstood as a black man"? He should be kissing the ground he walks on.
I'm not going to belabor the point, and I could go on and on....it's sickening
I'm not sure what forum this particular rant should fit (basegall, general, politics?), and I'm sorry if this is not the right one. I needed to rant and I already feel better
