Kathy came home from the hospital two days ago and is said to be in remission. She goes back in for another two week stay in three weeks.

Here's the e-mail she sent friends and family.

Dear {{{Everyone}}} (Family, friends, in-laws and out-laws)

I have been keeping my fingers crossed hoping that I would be able to send this e-mail to you.

As of this morning (Monday, December 17th) my Dr. came in and told me that I was in TOTAL REMISSION!!! I no longer have any signs of leukemia and my bone marrow is producing like it was before I got sick. We are not completely out of the woods, but this is the BEST news that we've had in over a month. I will be able to go home Tuesday or Wednesday.

I will have to come back in 3-4 weeks for what they call "consolidation"... This is just a backup that everyone has to go through. That means another bout of chemo but only for 5 days rather than 7. I'll go through about the same as I did this time. My immunse system will be wiped out again. Whatever hair they missed this time will probably be gone next time... Thank goodness I've always thought brains were better than beauty. I can't wait to go wig shopping... I've heard that blonds have more fun. Randy's asked me on more than one occasion, "Do you dye your blond roots?" DUH! I'll show him.

I have a wonderful story I want to share with you. Some of you know, but some of you don't.

Knowing that my hairdresxser was coming to the hospital to cut my hair that afternoon, I told Randy that I thought I'd get my hair cut real short (buzz job) so I wouldn't have to deal with my hair falling out... At the time we agreed that would probably be the best thing for me to do. During the day, I told one of my Drs. what I had planned and he told me... "No... don't get it cut real short..., some people don't loose all their hair..." I decided to get it cut short and not get a buzz job as planned. That evening when Randy came to visit... I took one look at him and he took one look at me and we both started laughing. Since he thought I was going to get a buzz job that afternoon, he had his hairdresser buzz him down to about 1/8 of an inch!!! OH MY!!! He didn't want me to feel alone so he got a buzz job thinking that I was going to get one... I guess I forgot to tell him that I'd changed my mind. I st! ill had hair and he didn't. ROFLMAO!!! What a sweetheart!

Thank you all for the "Get well wishes, prayers, e-mails, cards, telephone calls, etc., and etc... When the going gets tough, the tough get going and you all came through for me. You all played a big part in my getting well.

With love,

Kathy

Kathy got the rest of her hair buzzed off yesterday and got a wig. Should I be honest and tell her that it looks like a dead squirrel sitting on top of her head or tell her that it looks better than her real hair?

Just kidding.... actually it's not that bad.

Me...I'm keeping my head shaven. What a bitch! Never ever has THIS been on my list of things to do. I wear ski caps and baseball caps to keep my head warm and to preserve my modesty. I'm not used to going around with a naked head!

Love and thanks to all my friends for your support.

AzRusty

Glad she is improved! That is great news.

As far as the head shaving business goes, I have done that since I started going bald about 2 years ago. I think it looks better than the combover. Kinda like the Bruce Willis/Mark Messier look although I am not as bald as those 2. I wager that lack of hair will grow on you. I love waking up and not having to comb my hair anymore! You already have it nailed too, a stocking cap/toboggan is a must! Best wishes to u and your wife.

Since September 11th I seem to get moist whenever I hear some good news. Since this is great news I need to get a tissue.
The best gift of all. Good health.

Kathy and I went to lunch with my Dad yesterday at Arrowhead Country Club. Was the second restaurant that we have been out to since Kathy got out of the hospital on Tuesday.

Kathy looked better than me since she has hair. Me...I've kind of given up on the ski cap and for some reason the dumb baseball cap didn't make a lot of sense for dining at the country club either. So I went with my bald, dorky look.

Dad dropped a bombshell on us at lunch. He's getting remarried on Valentine's Day (Kathy and my anniversary).

Dad asked for my approval and blessing. WEll...I'll be dipped. That's the FIRST time my dad every asked for my approval about anything!

Mom's been gone almost two years now (from ovarian cancer) and it's been tough for dad.
I just said.......sure Dad. I want you to be happy!

Dad's fiance is the daugher of a neighbor from across the street who came to help take care of him after his abdominal surgery about six months ago. When I attended Dad's suprise birthday party back in November Margaret was there. Duh... I just thought that she was coincidentally in town to visit her daughter again. Nope she came out to Scottsdale from Indianapolis for Dad's birthday. Margaret is 78 and a widow. Dad's 83.

I wish them both luck. Will attend the wedding for sure. Kathy is a bit iffy but hopes to attend if she is strong enough and able.

Thank you Raymond.

Merry Christmas to all my friends here and happy New Year.

WE are going over to Kathy's mom's house for Christmas Eve tonight. Dinner. We are having sashimi, sushi and tempanyaki. I GUESS that's the traditional Japanese eve menu. Actually I don't have a clue.

With Kathy being in the hospital in isolation for a month. There was no raw fruits or vegetables and certainly NO raw fish! Kathy is looking forward to this. Me.. I dunno. I look forward to the turkey tomorrow.

AS you probably guessed I can't take Kathy fishing with me. She eats the bait! hehe

Merry Christmas to one and all
