Anybody out there go kayaking in there free time? I've rented a few times but ready to make a purchase & was wondering if anyone had 1st hand info on these 2 styles of kayak's. The one is from the company REI & one of their better 10 foot kayak's & the other is the foldable kayak (it was on the tv shark tank) that is very cool for it being so convienent to travel with. I'm very torn bout which direction to go cause on one hand the REI wilderness looks more comfortable to b in & has great control in the water. But the foldable is just so damn easy 2 just get up & go whenever u feel like it & has great reviews bout it being a really smooth ride in the water along w just being able to fold it up & carry it instead of muscling it up on the roof of your car.

I'll put the 2 links below of the two of them & the one that shows the video of the foldable kayak. & if you've never seen it it's actually a cool thing to watch. So I hope I don't get crickets bout this post but maybe there's a kayaker out there. Ha

I bought 2 kayaks a couple of years ago...since I'm on the heavy side and only plan on using them for local fishing...decided on a pair of Cobra FisnnDive....very pleased with them...all rigged out was $1,100.00 ea......GL

I bought 3 of these this spring. Got them on sale at Dick's. They are running a sale on them most of the time. I actually got the kids for $179 and Mine for $199. My son who is 11, my daughter is 13 1/2 and I each have one. They are lightweight and very easy to handle in and out of the water. I think the weight limit on them is 275. We have gone a few times and until we would have rented a bunch we could have paid for at least 2 of them so far. I don't care for sit on top ones because if you get into rapids you most likely will dump yourself off. We get some water inside ours because we don't have skirts on them but nothing that would make us have to get out and drain them (except for the one time PaSprint dumped his and almost drowned lol) I think these are a good price for something that is seasonal use.

i used to kayak rivers and wildwaters. i have no experience with folding kayaks (except one aluminium Grumman canot that folded around largeish rock in Lapland :142smilie ), had only glass fiber and polyform ones.

i would recommend closed cockpit with spray skirt, it gives you solid feel of the kayak and it's easier to paddle and handle. also you learn eskimo turn easily, with or with out paddle...

don't know how you are going to use it, but if you need multipurpose kayak, i think something like this should suit you well :

about paddles, i would recommend aluminium one piece shaft with straight metal edged blades
(Schlegel does perfect paddles), if you intend to do any wildwaters wear helmet.

have fun :0008
