I don't play much with the local guys these days, but much like all of you I still know several and from time to time a friend will ask me to place a bet for them, maybe a few times a month and typically during football or big events like March Madness.

I have never kept the action, I have always turned it in to the bookie and I've always got paid from both sides with no problems as I only do it for people I know won't stick me if they lose.

In my group of friends there is a bit of a fight going on because someone let it slip that they didn't turn in action for someone and it happened to be a losing bet so friend A made money off friend B's losing wagers.

I know it happens, is it OK? Friend B feels like he shouldn't have to pay since the action was not placed with a bookie and says he can't be sure he would have got paid if he won. I'm 100% sure he would have got paid if he won and I'm 100% sure friend A kept the action on purpose.

Is it OK? Does anyone have a right to be pissed off here? Is friend A a dick for doing it?

I'd like to hear your thoughts.

I've done this before....kept the action for myself.

As long as you are fully prepared to pay if you lose, who could possibly care??

In effect, you are becoming the book, I have no idea why anyone would care.

If the bet had won, would he have expected to get paid? Then STFU and pay the guy his money. Jesus Christ.

Maybe. Maybe the guy who held the bet could give him a break and not include the vig. That's what I would propose. I think that's more than fair since this guy wants to be a puss about it.

Friend B that made the wager is being a douche.

It doesn't matter who booked the bet, so long as it was booked.
The money was leaving his hands and coming back into his hands (had he won), it doesn't matter where it comes from or goes to beyond that.

He deserves a swift kick in the nuts for his little fishing expedition on a made up technicality.

Friend A is not being a dick.

1. Yes it's ok
2. Friend A should be pissed (he's not getting paid)
3.Friend B is a stiff and the only dick in this situation. He probably signs up for pool squares and doesn't pay up unless he wins or you don't see him for 2 months.

Why would you tell anyone you booked it?

Wasn't me (as I said above), it was a coworker who was telling/bragging to another coworker and it got back to B who now doesn't want to pay.

I have honestly never kept anyone's action, though I don't see anything wrong with it either.

I'm just saying why would anyone bring it up? No plus in it, as we are seeing.

Agreed, it's causing a shit ton of problems, at least today. We'll see how tomorrow goes, hopefully cooler heads prevail.

I really don't think guy B is angling here, I think he really feels as though the bet was never "placed". He doesn't understand the idea of "keeping the action". He thinks he's being screwed.

I'm hoping we make him understand the situation sooner than later.
