Monday heading out at daybreak...hope I have some pics, battery is charged!

We, 3 of us, will be dodging the Bartenders Sailfish Tourney, catch, boat and release.

Going out 5 to maybe 10 miles

Off to the dock, could be a bust. Full Moon last night and no wind this am.

Just got home from eating our catch....( a half hour ago :mj07: )

Started out trolling for Sail Fish and ran into dolphin (not flipper, mahi-mahi) 6 to 7 miles out ...mid-afternoon we anchored up....

Wind started to pick-up. Using squid, cut barracuda, pilchards and shrimp...we hooked several 'unknowns'? They weren't Nurse Sharks, these were tug of war sessions, 45 minutes to a hour.

One rod snapped in half! :scared

Amberjack, maybe a big Grouper...we couldn't get 'em up!

Brother got a pic or two of me...I'll post after he sends 'em. Never pulled my camera out of the double zip-lock bag...

80 today & tomorrow, shrimping good Wed/Thur with the cold front

Cant wait to get back out there. Those pics give me the fever. Looks like really light gear for "big" grouper and aj's. Keep the pics coming:toast:

20 lb test on light gear in the solo pic...30 lb test me watching.... 50 lb test on a bait caster that moved me around the boat.

Steel leaders on all...20lb rod snapped :scared Light stuff is really fun! zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzt

We were listening in on the bartenders tournie that day....a Mako shark hit a sailfish about to be boated...20 foot jump in the air after slicing it in half :scared 200 yards from a dive zone:scared

Hey I am with you with the light gear if I am snapper fishing, but when it come to grouper I am going for the big boys with a meat wench. As for the light stuff, we put the 4" berkley gulp shrimp in new penny on a jig head and have a ball with the lightweght spinning reels. I am sure you have done this, but if not give it a try. The last few trips I have limited in 20 min or less with these. Then the hunt id on for the big grouper!
