Known around the world for being the star of underground fight films, Kimbo Slice is now looking to go legit. This Saturday night Slice will step into a mixed martial-arts ring for the third time to take on former Ultimate Fighting Championship superstar Tank Abbott and online sportsbook betED.com has made Slice a heavy favorite.
With a professional record of 2-0 and a following almost unrivaled outside of UFC, Slice is currently listed at -450 to be the victor in his heavily anticipated match with Abbott at EliteXC: Street Certified which will air on Showtime on Saturday night at 10pm ET.
"Kimbo Slice has really come from nowhere to be an overnight sensation in the MMA world," said Randy Scott, sportsbook manager for betED.com. "Given his track record and immense popularity it was hard to not make him the favorite in this fight."
Abbott comes into the fight with a 10-13 record having lost three of his lost four matches. This will be his first fight since losing to Garry Turner at Cage Rage 21 last April. Abbott is currently listed at +350.
"Abbott's not exactly a spring chicken anymore. But he's still a feared striker and in this fight, with these two brawlers, anything can happen," said Scott. "Abbott has his followers too, so it could be an interesting atmosphere to say the least."
betED.com has odds for the following four other fights on the EliteXC card:
Antonio Silva (-260) vs. Ricco Rodriguez (+200)
Scott Smith (+115) vs. Kyle Noke (-145)
Brett Rogers (+175) vs. James Thompson (-225)
Edson Berto (+225) vs. Yves Edwards (-285)
"One of our fastest growing areas is betting on mixed martial-arts and this fight is a real sign of that," said Scott. "As soon as this fight was made official we had customers asking us to get odds up as quickly as we could, and we were more than happy to oblige."
