Does anyone have the record of rookie QB's in Week 1 games? I heard a stat a couple years ago when Boller made his debut and it was pretty remarkable - something like they had NEVER won in that situation. ...and the ATS was horrible too.

It only applied to Week 1 though.

Kyle Orton will be the 50th rookie quarterback to start a season opener since 1948 and only the 10th since 1990. Rookies are 18-31 s/u overall, but only 3-7 s/u in the last 10. The three winners: David Carr, Chris Weinke and Ryan Leaf.

Be careful betting against the Bears. They have one of the top 5 defenses in all of football this year and Orton will be better than he is getting credit for. They play is Chicago +6.5. I took them on the money line as well.

From 1998-

Winner: Ryan Leaf
Loser: Peyton Manning

I have no idea what that could mean at all.

...and then Chris Weinke - if I have the game correct - that was @ Minnesota and Carolina's only win of the whole season!

Orton barely saw a 1st string defense in preseason (if you wanna call Cleveland's defense 1st string). Now he's going to be @ one of the best defenses to start the year. ....It could be real ugly. Luckily, the Bears do have their own defense and we all know Ramsey isn't about to blow the doors off anyone.

I wouldn't read a whole lot into the 18-31. Chances are if you are starting a rookie qb, you are planning on it being a rebuilding year, so you're generally going to be in the underdog role anyway.

I'm a big Bears fan, and I usually make a good amount betting for and against them but I am gonna wait a few weeks this year to get a read on them. Orton is such a question mark, but the D is definitely everything it's been hyped to be and more. And, of course, Washington is a ? as always.

So. Cal
love the bears here........two strong defenses (a better one in chicago in my opinion) a low scoring game (total around 33) vs two green qb's.....one laying 6.5....seriously???

what the hell does wash bring to the table other than portis???

I agree that the Bears defense is better than Washington's. This game will be very low scoring and a game of field positions and special teams. The Bears have the edge in special teams and defense. Both offenses will struggle, and Washington's main weapon, Portis, will be nuetralized by the speed on the Bears defense. They have probably the fastest defensive line and we all know that Urlacher is the fastest LB out there. Bears win 13-9.
