OUTRIGHTS:
- Adam Scott(50/1) for 0.50* e.w. @ Bet365
A high seed off a good showing the prior year makes Scott a prime target for lower seeds with something to prove, and gives him the profile of a prime candidate for a reversal of fortune; he was punked by CH3 in a President's Cup singles match; and suspicions about his putting need to be answered. The opening match and the entire bracket are intriguing but not menacing. Regardless, the depth of his class and form that was on display while playing with Els for four rounds in his last outing is the core reasoning behind this play that would have me kicking myself if Scott advances and I was watching from the sidelines.
- As the matches unfold, (1) those wielding the ability to take advantage of opportunities that come their way and also make the tough par that can cut like a dagger, all seasoned with proper patience; and/or (2) established campaigners that have never or rarely bagged a scalp of this magnitude; seem the best candidates for getting on a roll to the headline making stages of this event. Streaky players with no conscience also tempt me. And losing a 26 hole opening match like Roberts dropped against Weir last year might prefigure grit in the following year. Some juicy odds seem a prerequisite. Anywho, feeling discombobulated after my post on prices at Olympic, and with names like Haas, Poulter, Verplank, Roberts, Montgomerie, Riley, Bjorn, Romero and Garcia further scrambling my brain, I'll take a pass on loading up on a second choice.
MATCHUPS:
PARLAY Appleby(-160) over Rose with Montgomerie(+105) over Price for 1* @ 2.33/1 @ 5 dimes
- Every watershed moment has been a bigger bust than the last for Rose this season, and drawing a huge mismatch against Appleby doesn't seem a likely turning point . . . Price looks to have widened his stance and does not yet appear to be firing on all cylinders, and when Montgomerie gets handed a juicy opportunity as a dog to really make himself look good, I shouldn't be and I'm not surprised that he can't just go about his business without endless jawing about every blade of grass he's tripped over.
