Where it is real F ing COLD
Well this thread has been failing so I wanted to give a good tip of mine for catching large mouth bass. This technique I use produces fish all day long, even during the hot hours of the day. Please feel free to share your bass tips as welll.

Use a medium heavy rod with about 14 pound test line. You southern boys might want to use heavier test for the HOGS down there, but up here 14 lb is plenty for the fish and weeds. Now I like to use a true turn hook or circle hook.. Pick the size to your discretion. I buy Gulp's Sinking Minnow (Greens and pumkinseed work the best for me) and I just put the hook through the center of the body. I do not use any weight and watch this worm sink. The bass can't resist it.. Many times I see the lure in the fish's mouth before they even tug, so all I have to do is real up the tension in my line and set the hook. This technique works real good in clear water lakes and around structure. I generally don't fish this way in water any deeper than 14 feet. Takes to long for it to sink.. I know many of us have our own way that we like the best, but if you are experiencing a "slow bite," try this and let me know how it works for you.

I do the same thing except I use Senko 4 or 5 inch worms. These things kind of flap on their way to the bottom. You really have to watch your line when you fish this way. Alot of times you won't feel the bite, your line just takes off in one direction or the other and, like you said, reel up the slack and set the hook.
