Hi guys,

I am workin on planning atrip to vegas for halloween.. airfares are dirt cheap, but finding a room special seems to be a problem as they only are advertising as far in advance as labor day for their weekday room deals.

I would kinda like to book now, but what are the recommendations? get the airfare now and just wait with the hotel reservations and see what pops up closer to the dates we are leaving? or call them up and see about booking well in advance and what kind of deal i can get?

I am just a lil lost on the decision to do it now or wait for the rooms cuz i want one of those nice deals where you get the restaurant vouchers and what not.

Also, is binions worth staying at?

We are going to be there Sun thru Friday morning, so I know there are decent deals out there.. I am lookin for something in the 70-90 buck range per night .

Marine, Binions is nice but they are downtown pretty far from the main part of strip. In my opinion location is everything. Try to get more centrally located on the strip. We usually stay at Bally's but also liked Treasure Island. Stayed at Paris and it was alittle more upscale than Bally's. Staying in the middle of strip will allow you to walk or tram to most of the casinos avoiding expensive cab fair.
Hope this helps. Have fun.

Golden Nugget is very nice

Golden Nugget is very nice

Just about the only place downtown that can compete in quality and service with the better Strip properties.

Almost all of the rooms have been redone in recent years. The south tower most recent. Ask for a room in upper floors on south side and you'll get a great view, tho is bit of a walk.

But as folks say, downtown is not the Strip. You are three miles from Caesar Palace, Bellagio, Mirage, etc. If you want to see the glitz of the Strip and all the attractions there each day, it's best to get a room on the Strip.

Downtown is great for hardcore gambling, cheap food deals, shopping sportsbetting lines (casinos are closer and much smaller), seeing many more homeless and mullet-headed fat slob tourists who love downtown 'cause "it's so homey and down to earth"--meaning they are completely out of place even strolling thru Bellagio.

GN was just sold to local entepreneurs, but I wouldn't expect any drop off in quality for a long time as it takes a while to get control of any property.

have a great time!

Thanks for the heads up about orbitz and hotels.com! I putzed around on all those sites for 2 straight days and finally found the deal for me!

It was on hotwire.com, but its an offshoot of orbitz, so i gotta say thanks.

7 days/6nights at the Sahara Casino PLUS airfare for $375 per person.

I was and still am a lil shocked at the low price when I compared it everywhere else. Reading reviews of the Sahara at various places it sounded like a decent place to hang my hat. Anyone offer up their take on it?

And fletch,
Get ready, I have plenty of Navy/Marine coffee mugs, water bottles, and posters for you to trade for various tips on las vegas things to do. ;)
