Overall approval rating- 48% approve - 52% disapprove. Pretty weak for somebody who has all this 'political capital' to spend, according to him.

In March of 2003-as we were preparing to invade Iraq-his approval rating was around 80%.

The other part of the poll probably explains the sharp drop:

Approve of his handling of the Iraqi war- 42%
Disapprove- 58%

And this poll was conducted on W's home court.

You really don't have to read between the lines too much.

The 80% approval in March 2003 clearly shows that the country was solidly behind him and willing to give him a chance to do his thing in Iraq.

The 42% approval of his handling of Iraq clearly shows that people see through a lot of the crap that was spread.

Which is funny since according to some around here, there are soooo many more conservatives in this country than liberals.

Depends on who and where there polling---Everyone must forgot his approval rating prior to elections--appears the actual results showed a different story---

You know kinda like everyone dogging Bush for academics and praising Kerry for his but after Kerry releases records today we find his GPA at Yale was lower than Bushes. Surprise-Suprise as Gomer would say. :)

His approval rating before the elections was generally around 53-56%.

Do you really need to see grades from 40 years ago to determine whether somebody is intelligent or not? If so, that's a strange criteria.

Politically correct war? Oh yeah, your bright idea is to turn the country into a parking lot.

Let's see. Iraq does nothing to us. We anihilate Iraq. Great plan.

I really don't think any of the disapproval is because we haven't nuked them or because we try to not destroy mosques or because we give them Korans at Gitmo.

We're doing everything we can over there, but I think people may finally be realizing that it was a useless invasion.

nah we just annhilate a couple cities in Iraq

thats my plan

the disapproval is because it is taking so long and costing so many lives

my plan we lose less lives and they lose more lives unfortunately but that is part of war

i really doubt Iran, N Korea, and anyone else for that matter has any respect for our military might the way we are fighting...thus along with our casualties, our credibility is taking a hit

:) Have to agree with Matt--grades are not as important as other factors as Einstein would indicate--one nonrelated issue I always found interesting as in most cases there is very fine line between genius and many raving lunatics.

I know my personal approval rating has gone from Strong Approval to Somewhat Approval. I still think he is doing an okay job with the hand that we have been dealt in the last few years, but he could/should be doing better.

I, personally, don't think the public needs to know everything that we do these days. Bush's biggest downfall is his communication skills. He could do a much better job of not explaining things. Every President from here on out will suffer from this because of the blood thirsty press. This has all but ruined Bush and Clinton.

Someone eluded to the world not fearing our military. I would almost guarantee that this country would lose more than 80% of the wars it has ever been in if we were to fight the way we do today. Our general public knows way too much and our government bends way too much. Our military is so bootstrapped by the loud minority, imo. These comments apply no matter who is in office.

Nothing like a poll of the day to make one feel good.

Didn't we ever have a President that operated with his finger in the air?

recently maybe?

bingo

now the ACLU and friends want to fight the war in the courts

the last line of defense should never be trial lawyers fighting for the enemy

You Neocons kill me. If Bush has a strong approval rating it is because he is doing a great job and if he has a bad approval rating it is because he does what is right. Guys, get your heads out of sand. Approval rating or not this guy has done very little right. Very little to help the working class. And very little to protect us from terrorism.

Stevie--you serve a discussion no good by constantly calling people neo-cons. I don't know if I am included in your grouping, but I feel like I am because I lean right.

"The abuse of alcohol and cocaine by W in his past could explain why he doesnt seem too bright, as he surely lost some cells."

One thing about it-- his admission his amission to drinking prob and quiting and when ask about drugs said he would not discuss which would be and admission in my view shows MUCH more character than --than trying to blow smoke up the publics ass with the "ya,but I did't inhale" ----Don't know of many who don't have skelatons in their closets especially when younger--you can either acknowedge them and try and do better or lie about it.
Personally I'll take the former over the latter.

neocons are old democrats who became conservative after seeing the failings of the programs they once pushed

not sure anyone in here fits that category, but StevieD only repeats what he hears, so don't bother him dawgball

I don't remember Kerry being touted as an intellectual unless that would be due to his portrayal by neocons as a liberal elitist from the NorthEast while W as a good ole boy from Texas. (which is a crock as he is about as texan as jeb is floridian).

The thing is - compared to addled W - Kerry seemed like an intellectual. Hell , who wouldn't?

I'm watching Neil Cavutos interview with W on Fox right now and W just pronounced 'prognosticator' correctly on his first try. I thought that this was notable and worthy of some props. (high five to George)
