OK, call this a homer play or whatever but I'm loving Illinois -14.5. These teams met 2 weeks ago at the same neutral site with Illinois coming up with a 12 point victory as a 15 point fav. If you watched that game Illinois was absolutely trouncing Northwestern and then let them back in the game before finally slamming the door but narrowly missing the cover. Will not happen this time! The Wisconsin loss has this Illinois team focussed and they will lay the smack down on NU hard and fast! Watching the NU-Minnesota game yesterday, the most amazing thing about it was how completely and totally unimpressive Minny is away from home. Second, though, is the fact the NU's only chance of keeping a game close is to slow it down and play there style of game. That is just absolutely not going to happen today against Illinois! Illinois has a swarming defense and those long cross court passes NU was getting away with against Minnesota are gonna be intercepted and going the other way so many times NU's gonna have whiplash! NU also had no answer for Rickert (who stopped himself by shooting terribly in the 1st half). How in the world are they gonna stop Cook? High/low all day long. This one's gonna be a laugher quickly.
I can definitely be rightly accused of being arrogant about this one and I may well end up with my foot in my mouth, but I really don't think so. This is gonna be men vs. boys, very similar to what we saw with Indiana vs. Penn St.
