If your company offers long term care
Please utilize the benefit. Unum is my provider and 5 years ago when I signed up I thought I may never need this benefit. My mother whom is 77 just went into assisted living @ 3,100 a month. Unum is covering 60% of the costs for my monthly premium of only $61.00 for up to 6 years. 1,800 x 72 months is a lot of damn money they saved me. fWIW

Mom is excited to be able to socialize with people and if this makes her happy, then I am blessed to be able to provide it for her.

$3100 a month per person - I am in the wrong business.

Anyone want to open an assisted living facility with me?

I have an in-home care policy I pay for so that my mother doesn't have to go to a nursing home that pays $7500 a month should it ever come to that.

Thanks for the post - appreciate it.

I have it on myself-started it 4 years ago--its big bucks to stay in one of those places. Many companies are not selling this insurance anymore.

I think I pay around $24 month and it is for $200 a day. to me it is well worth it--you never know--it can break you $$ wise.

Yes, I was a little shell shocked at the price. Is a 700 sq. Ft pad, and she can sign out to leave and drive to go shopping. I asked that she keep the driving to a minimum:0074

Sounds like a great rate!

that is a great thing,joker..very few elderly folks are amenanble to heading into senior citizen`s homes...and you can`t blame them...who wouldn`t want to stay home or with loved ones.......

you must love your mother very much...and it embiggens me to be your fellow poster...it`s one of the reasons that i "put up" with jack abusing me (he takes care of his mom)...

says an awful lot about a person...and i`m not kidding. :hail

I think that putting your parent in a nursing home is about as bad as it gets for the elderly. The average life expectancy is 2.7 years.
They also have to sell property and all assets back while utilizing the facilities.
Long term care also provides up to 50% coverage on in home care when mom gets to that point, she will be living with me. Mom wants social interaction with people her own age. is proven that people live longer due to social interaction and activities. I am just happy to provide her with assistance to give her those options.

And that's not even that much (3k)...I'd say for a relatively average place it's about 4k and high end f up to 8-10k per month. We just put my father in law in full time care at the young age of 60. It's pretty sad, he was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's at the age of 49, had to stop working in his prime. The saddest part is that he is the youngest one in full time care by 10-15 years easily. And my mother in law can never truly move on because he could live there 20 years. But that's another topic for another time-

I didn't know this insurance existed, good to know.

Where it is real F ing COLD
Opening up an assisted living can sure be a pain in the ass but if you have the right staff and skills it can be great. I am a nurse and my sister is a nurse and she wants to open one on lake property. Talk about the insurance needed for that.

I will say that assisted livings have come a long way and that is why the costs. Nursing homes have come a long way over the years as well. At least up north anyways. The costs. Holy Shit!!!
