If there was an NFL betting line for Sunday's AAA 400 at Dover International Speedway, Jimmie Johnson would be like New England, circa 2007 when they were breaking records all over the place. Johnson destroyed the field here in June for his fourth win at the "Monster Mile", and he's the odds-on favorite against in this, the second race of the Chase.
Dover Betting Odds - Sunday, September 27, 2:00 PM ET
Jimmie Johnson - The No.48 driver is favored at +400, and he's going for his second sweep at Dover, the first of which came back in 2002 when he led the most laps in both races. He led 298 laps here, but needed a late rally to pass Tony Stewart for the win. Since winning at Indy eight races ago, Johnson has two top-10s, but one came with a fourth-place run at New Hampshire last week.
Mark Martin - The Loudon race was won by 50-year-old Martin, who is still the points leader and has won a series-high five races. Martin has four wins in his 46 Dover races, and comes in listed at +600, but he also has nine DNFs on the appropriately-nicknamed "Monster Mile". Martin may drive a little more conservatively this week.
Greg Biffle - Biffle's been just as good, if not better that Johnson lately at Dover. His last four races here: second, third, first (last year's fall race), third. That's not too shabby from a driver many don't expect to compete in the Chase. Biffle comes in at +800 and finished ninth at New Hampshire last week.
Juan Pablo Montoya - Montoya may be the wild card of the Chase. We know he has the talent, as shown in his open-wheel career as well as his improvement in NASCAR. Last week, he set the record at New Hampshire to win the pole, and led 105 laps en route to a third-place finish. After points racing all season to get to this point, we're betting management gave the orders to let it all hang out, and Montoya, who is listed at +1300, left it all out there at Loudon.
Ryan Newman - The darkhorse of this group, Newman comes in at +2200 after an eighth-place run at New Hampshire, and he's one of five drivers (Johnson, Stewart, Jeff Gordon and David Pearson) to sweep at Dover, doing it 2003 for two of his three wins here.
Sports Picks: Jimmie Johnson becomes the first driver to sweep Dover twice.
