misc writeups

Chicago 20 - MINNESOTA 17?It?s hard enough to handicap NFL games
under normal circumstances, let alone without knowing who will be playing and
where the game will be played. Chicago?s penetrating DL harried grandfather
Brett Favre into four turnovers (1 fumble, 3 ints.) in 27-13 win on Nov. 14. Now,
the Bears are humiliated after last week?s blasting in the blizzard administered
by the Patriots. At our deadline, the site of this game was unknown, with the
Vikes more concerned about the Giants at Ford Field in Detroit on Monday
night. Those with a sense of the literary are saying the collapse of the
Metrodome roof last week was a sad metaphor for the Vikings? 2010 season.
Given the huge X-factor in this one without knowing either the host?s QB or
venue (U. of Minn.?), let?s say Bears by three.

MINNESOTA over Chicago by 1

Both teams enter tonight?s game off troubled losses in yet another NFL
game with an unclear quarterback situation. So what else is new? At least
the Vikes play at home in the Twin Cities this week, either at the Metrodome
or TCF Bank Stadium (Gophers? new home fi eld), roof conditions pending.
Revenge from a 27-13 loss in the Windy City (as one-point road chalk) a
month ago sets the tone for this contest as Minny is a mighty 4-0 SU and 3-1
ATS at home when seeking revenge in this series. On the fl ip side, the Bears
have cashed in six of their last seven games on the Monday night division
road and are 7-1 ATS in this series when playing off a loss. In the meantime,
we?ll await word on the status of the Ol? Wrangler before deciding on
which pair of pants to try on.

Minnesota over Chicago by 3 (Monday)
Assuming the roof gets fixed in the Metrodome in time, the Vikings should
be hosting the Bears in their natural home. Minnesota has defeated Chicago
seven of the past eight times inside the Metrodome. The Vikings are 8-3-1
ATS overall in their last 12 home contests. The Bears have won five of six
on the road. Jay Cutler is dangerous against a vulnerable Vikings secondary.
Minnesota very well could be treating this matchup as its Super Bowl being
on center stage. It?s probably going to be the final time Brett Favre (check
status) performs on national television. MINNESOTA 24-21.

Chicago at Minnesota ? The Bears beat the Vikings, 27-13, in Week 10.The
Vikings are 7-1 SU hosting Chicago.

CHICAGO over *MINNESOTA by 4
Snow and wind is no longer ?Bears? weather? in a Mike Martz/Jay Cutler offense. So, the first
thing you want to know is where the heck is this game being played if the Metrodome still
has holes in the roof? Indoor-outdoor can make a big difference for 9-4 SU Chicago, but it
really shouldn?t matter to the Vikings. Their quarterback -- Farvaris -- would throw 2-4 interceptions
against the Bears? defense if they were playing it in the Sahara Desert. You have to
throw out last Sunday?s game against New England when evaluating the Bears ? the teams
play once every four years, and the weather suddenly changed things in a fluky manner. Prior
to the 36-7 defeat, Chicago?s defense had allowed only 9 TD passes this season, with 16
INTs, and as noted earlier this season in a BEST BET winner with Chicago over Minnesota,
defenses influenced by Lovie Smith have been a bug-a-boo to Brett Favre during the career
of Mr. Injured and Still Won?t Leave. CHICAGO, 21-17.

MONDAY
Chicago 23 - MINNESOTA 20- (8:35 - ESPN) -- Don't know where this one will
be played, what with the collapsing of the Metrodome's roof. One of the sidebars
to this contest, was the fact that this is the Vikings' 3rd straight HG. Not so, with
previous Monday Nighter at Detroit. Bears still a game up in NFC North, but their
3rd-ranked "D" was taken to the woodshed by the Pats LW, allowing 36 pts, with
27-12 FD & 475-185 yd deficits. And a pair of Cutler INTs didn't help. Minny lost
its first encounter with the Bears, 27-13, so a revenge affair, but Vikes lost their
last division HG, 31-13. A huge affair for Chicago, thus another decided by a FG.
