New York - Ex- Enron chief executives Kenneth Lay and Jeffrey Skilling are awaiting a verdict that could put them in jail for the rest of their lives but the consensus in the online gambling world is in: Guilty.

Costa Rica-based BetCris.com, an online sports book, closed the betting on the outcome of the trial, in Houston federal court, saying the odds had gotten too lopsided.

"Our clients were rushing to place their bets--and they were only putting their money down on 'guilty' ", says BetCris Chief Executive Mickey Richardson. "The odds became so outrageous that bettors who wanted to wager on Lay and Skilling's conviction became upset when they were quoted such a high price."

Poor guys. The odds closed at 1 to 80 that Lay would be convicted and 1 to 100 that Skilling would be convicted, giving a slight edge to Lay, depending on how you look at it.

The jury has been deliberating 34 counts of fraud and conspiracy after the defense and prosecution rested their cases last week. The trial lasted 56 days. Skilling faces the most charges in the case, 28.
