My wife has said the older I get the more I'm "losing my filter". Tonight was an example I guess...we went to dinner at an Asian restaurant called MaMafos at 5.55 pm Think its a chain because there are a few here in Austin...maybe their only in Austin, not sure..it was my 1st time even though my wife and daughter have been there before...we walk in and your order your meal ....the guy welcomes us to the restaurant and says you are here before 6 so you get the early bird special. its 20% discount on any appetizers and main entree's...so I order a cup of wonton soup and a Mongolian beef and rice entree... the guy behind the counter says" sorry soups although is listed as an appetizer is not included in the early bird special..and the Mongolian entree is also not included because the rice is included in the entree.....so I politely tell him to skip my rice then..He says we can't do that....even though that makes no sense...so I think Ok no problem...not going to get into an hassle with their early bird special ..then my wife orders seasame chicken entree..he then says the same thing to her about its not included... no problem again whats the savings on 20%....then I look up and behind the counter they have a big 20% discount promotion for all teachers...so I tell him I'm a teacher and he asks for some proof... so I take out of my wallet my NY State Teachers Retirement card with my photo and it says 23 years teacher and 17 school administrator ...my wife is stunned and shocked as I do that.. I tell him then just give me the 20% discount and skip the early bird discount...now I know I'm being a wise ass..he explains to me its only for current teachers for Austin schools...and I understand that fully....now I never really expected and teacher discount especially someone who retired and taught in a different state... now I was very respectful and was just really fooling around....then the filter comes out... as i was paying with the credit card there is a tip section..so as I was signing the the total I said to the man " to bad its 6.02 because you missed my early bird tip"...so they give us a number and we put it out on are table ... my wife says to me "OMG you lost your filter saying that about the tip"... I was kinda just joking but my wife is telling me " you are losing your filter".. you are the most polite respected person ever..your 4 kids have followed in your foot steps...and you tell this poor guy that he's not getting a tip because the early bird time elapsed...I'm laughing a little because after they serve you ..you just leave your plates on the table..there are no garbage cans or a place to put your plates.. I tell my wife I will leave the tip on the table for the busboy or who ever cleans my table ..not the guy taking my order at the counter...".anyway hon he missed my early bird tip":mj07:
i ended up leaving a 20% tip for the busboy or who ever cleaned up the table....now I was being a wise ass and having fun with my wife....of course she calls daughter No 1 here in Austin and is telling her " dad told the guy he's not getting a tip...he is losing his filter...then as she talks to daughter no 2 in Philly says the same thing....later on I talk to my wife and try to explain to her its not losing my filter..its just me being sarcastic after we were 0-4 in getting any discount....but then she says " but pulling your retirement card out....c'mon thats a stretch...Now of course I knew that....just having fun....you been married to me for 43 years....
ps The other day I go to McDonalds at 6.00am for a sausage biscuit ..there is a homeless guy sitting at a table with maybe 80-90 pennies he is lining up and a few nickels and dimes....as i go by I take a $ 5 bill and put it on his table and say " breakfast is on me"....he thanks me and says " praise you my son"....as I walk by...didn't tell my wife that story but since I'm writing this here tonite will mention it tomorrow....
I do think the older you get your filter does go some....but I'm a long way off I hope
hope everyone is doing good here in MJ's
Uh Oh did lose my filter yesterday..after watching the Knicks get the 3rd pick...and losing Zion...unreal
