Outright plays (total stake per play: 1pt)
Pat Hurst to win 33/1 e.w. @ BetFred and BetDirect
Hurst did not take part in the LPGA Tour's three events in Asia and that can only help at this stage of the season with two events to go. She has been very consistent this year, ranking in the top-10 in Scoring Average and on the Money List on this Tour, and finished 7th on this course last year. It is enough to suggest that she should contend far stronger than these odds suggest and given that the tee-times show her first out, in the best of the conditions and playing with a marker, she should at least get herself into contention from the first round onwards.
Sophie Gustafson to win 40/1 e.w. @ Stan James, Expekt and BetFred
Gustafson did play in Thailand and South Korea, though she probably wished that she hadn't as she played poorly. She did rest last week rather than play in Japan, though. But ignoring her South-East Asian performances, she was certainly playing very well in both Europe and on this Tour. Add in finished of 3rd and 6th and a return to her previous form is to be expected.
Soo-Yun Kang to win 100/1 e.w. @ Sportingbet, Sporting Odds and Ladbrokes
Justifiably high odds on Kang given her finishes this year, but they have been the result of a flaring up of a neck injury originally sustained in a car accident in 1998. It has been an injury that has never fully recovered so she is prone to sustained spells of poor form and withdrawals, but she declared in August at the Safeway Classic that she appeared to be nearing full fitness and while she withdrew again that week, she held the lead after two rounds the following week. She would finish 15th after a poor 3rd round, but returned to Korea, as usual at this time of the year, and finished in the top-15 in two more events and then 11th in the LPGA's KOLON-Hana Bank Championship. She has not shown such consistency since the end of last year and her neck is clearly not the issue that it was earlier this year. On that basis, and having shot all four rounds under-par on this course last year, she should not be a 100/1 shot in a 39-player field.
