Why on gods green earth did Luke Staley get picked 214th in the draft??!?!? Are the team's blind or something, did anyone watch this guy run!?? Luke Staley is like the white man's version of Bo Jackson!!! He, to me, was the best running back of all of college football, size, power, speed, deceptive, and he follows blockers better than any back I've seen. He averaged what...like around 8 yards per carry, that's astonishing!!! What, just because he might have got an injury, it will heal 100%. Or was it because he is white?? If he was black, he would have been drafted right up there with William Greene. Can someone tell the NFL coaches that white guys can run too!!!!

Detroit, with Harrington(who I think is better than Carr) and now with Staley(better than Greene) will be explosive on offense!!!

Just a counter point...

Just a counter point...

Although the guady averages are appealing, remember the type of offense he came from, and the type of offense the NFL will run. The system in this situation helped make an above average player look great. Don't doubt the physical skills, but in the NFL everyone including the LB's that are bigger have the same skills.

Doesn't he have a history of either injury or personal problems?I pretty sure that was the reason of him being picked late in the draft.

William Greene has had problems, and one of the most problem RB's out there DeShaun Foster was taken early too. So Staley being problematic wasn't the reason he did not go early, it was because he's white. Only one other running back in history had better yards per carry than Staley had. The NFL is prejudice against white running backs.

These are all the running backs that went before Staley, all of whom, if I'm not mistaken, are black......

WILLIAM GREEN RB BOSTON COLLEGE 1 16(16) Cleveland
T.J. DUCKETT RB MICHIGAN STATE 1 18(18) Atlanta

hello there.............I agree 100%, hes also a very good blocker and reciever. Its crazy he went so low, I dont know what the f*** so of these team were thinking. He almost single handily won a few games for BYU this year. I will say this if his injury is behind him he will be a good NFL player.

Staley was

Staley was

picked low but I believe that it was due to his injury and the type of offense he played in college. It made him look better than he really is. He will be nothing but a good 3rd down back in the NFL. Just my opinoin

He's had 8 operations already, 6 of them on his knees so Im sure that scared away alot of teams. Plus like others have said, he ran in an offense that spread defenses out

Staley is good

Staley is good

The offense did not make Staley look better than he was. Staley made the BYU offense look better than it was. If you saw the games that Staley played in versus those he missed it was very evident. I agree hello there. I am not aware of all of the injuries mentioned but it must have something to do with it.

Hey, I have no talent...........where do I apply??

If you saw the injury against MSU, it was ugly. I wouldn't have risked a high pick on him. I don't care what he did against New Mexico and UNLV etc.

i think the biggest reason was the injuries mentioned. there is also a question of where he played. that conf isn't know for it's d.

not to turn something completely racial, but honestly, i'd bet the white thing played a part. anybody who doesn't think that the white athlete doesn't have to deal with a little racism on the court of gridiron has never played the game.

i was a little disappointed in his selection as well. seventh round. wow. he'll have a nice career...barring injury.

MSU did put a wicked hit on him, but I don't think he can take a good hit from an NFL linebacker and thats what they look at. The thing about staley is he never really played any "hard hitting teams" so say the scouts other than MSU.

:nono: there were plenty of drafts that did not go were we think they should, for instance an MSU linebacker.

Hard hit?? Are u kidding me, he got injured when the guy could not take staley down, but rolled over his leg. His leg got cracked. 90% of the players in football would have been carried out of the stadium, but Staley, with a little help, actually walked off, that in itself was incredible to see.

Bluegrass!
If I aint mistaken, Terrell Davis was also drafted in the 7th round, and he turned out to be a pretty decent professional...

hello there,

You make yourself sound like a complete cement head with every successive post. First time I saw you was when you told all of us that the Vikings in week 1 vs. Carolina last year was worthy of betting your ENTIRE ACCOUNT on the moneyline, which predictably lost. Then I remember not too long ago you started posting some inane crap about needing money and how if someone had loaned you $1000 you would have turned it into like $7000 by winning three plays in a row (please don't correct me on the specifics, the point is what matters).

Now, you are telling me that NFL teams don't want white running backs. That is the most retarded crap I have heard in some time on this message board, which really covers some ground. Though white players may receive prejudice on the field during play via comments like, "this white boy can't beat me," or something like that, from a general manager's or owner's perspective of putting together a team a white player is a gold mine.

There is a long list of mediocre-to-average white players that become huge fan favorites largely because of their skin color. Tom Waddle, Chuck Cecil, Jason Sehorn and Wayne Chrebet come to mind. I hate to slight those guys because they all were/are solid pros, but their fame clearly exceeded their talent. It also is true that each had some extenuating circumstance to get them over big to fans (Waddle with the smelling salts, Cecil with the big hits & nose bleeds, Sehorn with his good looks and Chrebet with Keyshawn), but my point is that it is unlikely that guys with their ability would have been stars had they been black, latino, asian or samoan.

I'm not going to comment on Staley's talent or NFL prospects because it is hard to tell how an injury will heal. My only point is that it makes you look incredibly stupid to assert that a guy would lose draft status based on being white.
