What do you think about
Yoshihiro Akiyama vs Kazuo Misaki
221. Yoshihiro Akiyama 1.500

and Fedor at 1.1 against Choi?

I got both Akiyama (-211) med and Choi (+801) small.

Akiyama is faster, stronger and has both better striking and grappling. The only advantage Misaki has is durability, but that is a non-factor.

Choi is 14 inches taller and 130 lean lbs more and understandably slow due to his size, but he's very coordinated and strong as a bull. He has better standup and I think is going to be strong on his feet due to his wrestling background (granted, it was Korean Sumo wrestling). Fedor has 3 subs, armbar, kimura and RNC. I think he'll have difficulty getting the former 2 on someone as big and strong as Choi. And Choi's durability should prevent a KO. The only was Fedor can get a KO IMO is with a soccer kick and those are illegal for their fight. This is a difficult fight for Fedor IMO.

I also got Melendez over Ishida (-301) med.

Yep, Aykiama looks good.

Choi, I think Fedor will submit him.

But you are right, +800 is quite compelling.

I'm increasing my Akiyama and Melendez bets to large.

Too bad they aren't offering a line on Zentsov vs. Russow. Last time Zentsov fought a no-name wrestler he lost despite being a big favorite.

Unlucky Brother. It sounds like Akiyama was winning handily until he got caught.

I thought your Melendez bet was risky as I have seen Ishida a few times and he has awesome wrestling. The only fighter that has made him look like shit is Gomi. I thought Melendez would win but Ishida did not give him breathing room.

Better luck next time.

Shitty for me, indeed, I lost all of my profit from UFC 79.

Choi marked Fedor's face up and was in position to do some damage, but got armbarred. Can't expect much more from a +801 fighter I suppose.

Having watched Ishida a number of times I knew he was a good wrestler, but having seen Gil beat another good wrestler in Guida and have a close fight with Kawajiri I thought he'd be able handle it. It was a close one based ob Pride rules since Gil landed some alright strikes, attempted some subs and dumped Ishida on his head, but at ?300 it was a bad bet.

About Misaki, I neglected to take into account how frustrating his standup style can be. He probably threw 40+ faints of various types such as knee raises and hops. To top it off I disregarded the importance of Misaki's durability. Akiyama landed a legit KO punch, but Misaki survived, and largely thwarted the subsequent GNP. Without that durability, Misaki doesn't get off the deck and land his KD punch followed by a KO inducing head kick. Soccer kicks were illegal for the event and that kick may have been one. Akiyama's hand looked to be on the mat when the kick landed. It doesn't matter now though, the result is in the books.

Too bad they didn't offer Russow vs. Zentsov, indeed, that's the only fight I mentioned that I got right.

The Melendez fight is the only one that suprised me. I really thought he was on his way to the top, maybe he needed this loss.

Choi must have not had much training in sub defense. He left his right hand sitting on Fedor's chest forever after hitting him. I'm not a fighter but I know you can't do that. If he would have started out in MMA he would be unstoppable. His size is something to watch. I really wanted to see his standup but it looked like Fedor wanted nothing to do with it.

Definately got ripped off with the Misaki vs. Akiyama fight. I rewatched the KO sequence multiple times on slowmotion and it was a soccer kick. And then this picture just solidifies it.
