First have to recap NT vs UTSA....had a great time in San Antonio ...the game was the best game I've seen in person in 4-5 years..I will admit I did take UTSA +2 but was a guest of North Texas and got a free ticket left at the will call window...had to pretend to cheer for my Mean Green but did have a 10 team money line parlay with North Texas ..It was good 2 other teams lost so I didn't lose just on NT...
I must admit I know UTSA better then any other team except Texas and Texas St...the game was so exciting...about 10-12 lead changes,so much drama and NT's star player Smart didn't start...was benched...he pissed off the coach in El Paso Friday nite..by the way North Texas flew from Dallas to El Paso...El Paso to San Antonio and then after yesterdays game its the bus back to Denton...cheap school..You are 16-1 now 16-2 in 1st place in Conf USA now 2nd place and you have a 6-7 hour ride back to Denton...that's a long bus ride after getting beat at the buzzer..
Yes,Jivvan the Roadrunners super star who is a head case hit an off balance jumper from about 8 feet fading away.. game tied 72-72 with 3 seconds left..A forced shot after he dribbled to the hoop and lost the ball..he somehow picked up the loose ball and faded away to shoot..the ball was a bad shot hit the rim twice,rolled around and dropped in...74-72 with 1 second on the clock..NT threw a football pass that went out of bounds...buzzer goes off and the entire team runs on the court celebrating...Its hard to explain Jivvan.. he is a 6'3 Puerto Rican kid with a wide orange Bandana across his forehead..he has a crazy hairdo but has 2 pig tails standing out...a knee brace that is the biggest and longest I have ever seen... a few tats on his arms...a short beard or hasn't shaved in a while...he is a college version of Iverson...plays the same style ...out of control maybe 25% of the time...penetrates,passes and shoots fade away 3's..yes fade away 3's..he started out with 4 turnovers and was out of control...was benched and of course sat on the other end of the bench talking to no one...then after sitting for 5 minutes Henson the head coach went over to him...put his hands behind his head and whispered something...Jivvan was never disrespectful and went back into the game...he knows how to handle him and everyone in the gym knows Jivvan is not playing with a full deck...1st half stats Jivvan 0-4 from the 3 ..has 3 turnovers ..think he ended up with 18 points...hits the shot and wins the game...NT's super star did nothing in the 1st half..then he hit 2 huge 3's to bring North Texas back..they were down by 9 with a few minutes left...he is really good and stepped up...
Both teams have a lot of talent and both teams have good coaches...Roadrunners are dangerous ...Wallace was 1-8 from the 3...all open jumpers...I always get asked in NY "coach do you miss coaching" I always say a little but not as much as I thought.....well yesterday I missed coaching...
Then on the way home on I-35 stopped at a Buc-kees...south of Austin..its a convenience store with 120 pumps...its hard to explain it unless you have been to one... A bought a fresh barb-q sandwich and a soda...I asked where do you eat to the cashier..she said " in your car"
