Cluess the coach who just resigned was the best recruiter in the MAAC for years. He always got the Johhnies or Pirates[ SH} seconds or kids that academically wouldn't make it. But Tim was a terrible bench coach and had many problems with his players off the court . Iona is a catholic school and just got tired of his morals and him defending his players. So he resigned instead of being fired. So what does Iona do.. They hire Pitino who has even more problems off the court then anyone in the country. Pitino really had no one interested in him so takes the New Rochelle job . Close to NYC ....think he is thinking we'll stay here a year or 2 and let things settle down and then take a power 5 job. But Pitino is really a good coach. I followed him and saw him 3 times at clinics. And any HS coach had his video on " full court pressure" I learned something big from him Deflections.. He always talked about deflections.. It should be a category in your stat sheets. I put that in right away and it was almost as important as steals rebounds,blocked shots etc. When ever your defense can deflect a ball everyone on the defense is facing the deflection . The offense is turned around cutting,setting screens etc not facing the ball.. Wow something so simple and it makes sense. So my biggest award at the end of the year after drawing offensive fouls was who got the most deflections. Thank you Rick for waking me up. Not sure how long he will stay at Iona but I know all the other coaches in the MAAc are telling these recruits that if you go to iona he won't be around.
