Its back to the MAAC friday nite conference games...everyone is off getting ready for tomorrow..
Marist -2.5 over Siena **
Saints have dominated this series winning 19 of last 24...think Bush senior was the president..but there is a new sheriff in poughkeepsie and he is finally teaching some basic fundamentals like "how to play defense..."...Siena has fired their coach and is rebuilding..Fisher is leading scorer and rebounder...they found a freshmen Pickett who has surprised his parents,HS coach and Siena coach...he had 15 pts 7 assists and 4 rebounds in last game...he has won MAAC rookie of the week for 4 weeks..Foxes have Parker who is by far the best player on the court.. Funk can shoot but needs to be open.Saints defense is avg but new coach is playing uptempo calling it "mayhem offense"...if anyone knows how to coach against this its Dunn...when he coached at St Peters his defense could stop Iona's who was avg 96 pts a game...Foxes have won 6 games already..thats almost more then the past 2 years..its still a work in progress but think Foxes can win this one at home by a few,
Rider -1,5 over Canisius **
The 2 pre-season favorites going against each other..and both have had poor starts .. .same with the Griffs..2-0 in conf...Griffs coming off 97-90 loss to Brown..but Molson is the best scorer in the conf and Reese is 1st team all MAAC...Johnson is another scorer...they have some talent ..although they are 5-9 overall they are 2-0 like Rider in the conf...they are a bad 3 pt shooting team ..they won both conf games on the road vs Marist and Siena..Rider is the best team in the MAAC...Vaughn there best player is still out and won't play tonite..Allen is there 2nd best scorer but he's been in a funk and played only 14 minutes in the Fairfield win..Scott has stepped up..they still have Jordan the best pt gd in the conference..he can break any press and has great court awareness..Rider can shoot the 3 ranking them around 8th in the country shooting 42%...but they cannot shoot FT's ranking them in the 350's...even w/oVaughn and Baggett as the coach they win this one by a few on the rd..
Iona +1 or now pk over Niagara ***
Last yr Purple at home were 6-3 in conference...but they could never beat Iona...its been about 7 years since they beat them up by the Falls...but no Iona team has traveled up there with a 4-9 record....they have split the past 2 yrs with the visiting team winning.Iona non conf has been terrible..but its MAAC time..they are 2-0 already in conf and ready to be 3-0..Purple is also 2-0... Purple has Prochet pre-season POY who can score and rebound. Robb is another fd that can do both...but Purple who for years had scoring gds or small fds don't have one..
Meanwhile Iona has the other pre-season POY in McGill.it depends if you read Blue Ribbon,Athlon or Lindys.. I go with McGill...he can score, pass, shoot .. He led the MAAC last yr in assist-turnover ratio..had 457 assists and steals...he is so fast...Crawford is the fd that can score and rebound..Griffin w/o a doubt is there best player...oops I forgot..he punched and knocked out the asst coach and at 1st was going to be suspended for a game until the President of Iona Father Nye and the Christian brothers kicked his ass out of New Rochelle...thank god we Catholics do have some morals..even though Tim Nocluess can't coach but can recruit gets a small win here..Throw out there non conf record..its MAAC time
