Toledo
The end of the regular season is coming near us and the MAC tourny is just a few weeks away. I`ll shall be off to Cleveland to watch my beloved Rockets probbaly get thumped in the first round. Anywho....tonight we have a dandy at John Savage Hall where BGSU and Toledo will duel it out. You can expect a sell-out crowd, especially when my brother is going considering he never goes to Toledo basketball games. I on the other hand will not be attending this game, for I have Calculous III from 7:30-9:00. Damn!

Lets break this down....shall we.......

Bowling Green: All I have done all season long was talk about Keith Mcleod, well Iam gonna talk about him some more. Ive said it before...I`ll say it again, Mcleod is the man and he is averaging 24 points per game and 4 assists a game. Not bad right...its even better when you have a supporting cast in Len Matela who averages 16 points per game and 9 boards per. Last time these two schools met...BG laid the wood, winning by 19 points. Matela had 28 and Mcleod had 15 including his 4-5 3-point shooting. BG outrebounded Toledo on both sides....they grabbed 11 O boards and 34 D boards and having 45 all together. Toledo...well lets just say they did below average. In the MAC BG is ranked 2nd is FG percentage with 49% and is also 2nd in points scored averaging 77 points per game. I always like betting good free throw shooting teams and BG is awesome at FTs. As a team they are 79% good enough for 2nd in the MAC. And of course they are 2nd in 3 pointers...connecting 42% from downtown.

Toledo: I hate to say this....but BG is gonna thump us. We are outmatched in every single aspect of the game. I find myself again liking a road team, but I think this road team is alot different from what I usually talk about. BG only being 30 minutes away from the Toledo campus. And Savage Hall is just not loud....the way they designed the damn thing doesnt make anything real loud. Not even concerts. Toledo just stinks in every statistical category. They are 2nd ot last in defense only averaging 27 boards per game....and only having 678 boards per game compared to BGs 770. Toledo is dead last in assists..which only means one thing.....yes gentleman you guessed it..Toledo turns the ball over more then ANYBODY in the MAC averaging nearly 19 turnovers a game!!! You cant win like that my freinds. And it inst like Toledo is a scoring powerhouse, they are 2nd to last in scoring in the MAC with only averaging 61 points per game. Toledo is 2nd to last in FTs. As a team Toledo is shooting 65% from the line...blah! The only good thing about Toledo is that they committ the least amount of fouls. For Toledo to have a shot here...Terry Reynolds and Nick Moore HAVE to be aggresive and not let Mcleod and Matela push them around like they did in the first meeting. Toledo needs to rebound the ball!! But they are so undersized and just simply outmatched.

My pick : Bowling Green -3.5

Sorry Kmac....

FACTS & STATS: Site: Savage Hall (9,000) -- Toledo, Ohio. Television: Local. Home Record: Bowling Green 11-1, Toledo 6-2. Away Record: Bowling Green 6-3, Toledo 3-11. Neutral Record: Bowling Green 2-1, Toledo 0-0. Conference Record: Bowling Green 9-4, Toledo 6-7. Series Record: Toledo leads, 74-71.

GAME NOTES: The Bowling Green Falcons fly into Savage Hall tonight to take on the Toledo Rockets in an important Mid-American Conference tilt. After dropping three of four in late January, the Falcons have responded by winning five of their last six games to improve to 19-5 overall. The most recent victory came last Wednesday in an 82-61 whipping of Eastern Michigan. Seven of Bowling Green's nine conference victories have come by 12 points or more, and it boasts a solid 6-3 mark on the road for the year. As for Toledo, it has dropped four of its last six decisions to fall a game below .500 in league play at 6-7. On Saturday, the team suffered a second half collapse that led to an 81-63 loss to Ball State. Although their season record of 9-13 is far from impressive, the Rockets have managed to win six of their eight home games thus far. Toledo holds a 74-71 edge in the all-time series between these two teams. Although BGSU captured a 76-57 triumph in January's meeting, Toledo has won the last two meetings at Savage Hall.

Bowling Green set the tempo last Wednesday with its defense, allowing Eastern Michigan to make good on only 37 percent of its field goal attempts in the opening period en route to a 39-26 disadvantage at intermission. The Falcons took care of business at the offensive end in the second half, hitting 50 percent of their shots from the floor to seal the victory. Ball control was a major factor in the contest, as BGSU racked up 15 assists and committed only nine turnovers. The Eagles, by contrast, managed 13 assists and suffered 21 costly giveaways. Keith McLeod poured in 32 points on 4-of-6 shooting from three-point range. Len Matela added 14 points and 10 rebounds and Brandon Pardon dished out 10 assists. McLeod continues to make a strong case for MAC Player of the Year, as he is averaging 23.3 ppg. Matela, who is netting 15.6 ppg, is pulling down a team-high 8.2 rpg. Pardon rounds out the double-digit scorers with 10.2 ppg to go along with 6.9 apg.

The Rockets connected on 56 percent of their shots from the field in the first half on Saturday and actually held a 36-34 lead over Ball State at the break. However, they dropped to 37.5 percent in the second stanza and missed 8-of-15 free throws in the frame. Toledo cost itself a chance at a victory by committing 17 turnovers while dishing out just five assists. On a positive note, the Rockets did hold a 31-27 rebounding advantage. Nick Moore posted 17 points in defeat and A.J. Shellabarger chipped in with 13 points. Terry Reynolds (12 points) and Keith Triplett (10 points, 12 rebounds) were also impressive. Reynolds currently leads Toledo in scoring with 14.5 ppg, although he is shooting just 36.8 percent from the floor on the season. He does not get much help from his teammates, however, as Moore (13.7 ppg) is the only other player scoring in double figures.

Although Toledo has the advantage of playing in front of its home crowd, the edge has to go to Bowling Green in this contest. The Falcons can score on the inside as well as out on the perimeter and should cruise to their 10th league win
