havent seen the mac this unpredictable in a long time. there is so much parity and inconsistency that its become a weekly challenge to cap.
westen michigan/ohio
still feel like western michigan is overrated, but ohio has absolutely no offensive identity whatsover. solich doesnt know if he wants to be a nebraska-style power team or if he wants to throw the ball down the field and open it up. their personnel is far more suited for a power game but they seem to be too stubborn to admit it. with cubit healthy, wmu feels they can challenge in the west. and since that side is wide open, they might be right. but this looks like a game ohio should win. very hard to justify western as a road chalk in athens.
ball state/buffalo
this line has been slowly moving down all week and for good reason. buffalo is still buffalo, but gill has them playing extremely hard. in the past, buffalo would mail games in from time to time. but that has not happened once this year. they handled their brutal bg/northern illinois/auburn swing much better than expected. their run defense is a nightmare but overall they are finding ways to stay in games on sheer balls. for some reason, bsu turned the team over to freshman nate davis at qb. he has talent but lynch got this team through a tough time last year and he deserves better than to be splitting -- and now sitting behind davis. ball state simply has no defense to speak of. garrett wolfe gashed them for 350+ on the ground and did it on 31 carries. purdue's painter threw for 400+. even eastern michigan's tyler jones ran for 150+ and threw for 150+.
akron/cincinnati
zips got their asses handed to them by kent state last week. cincy bounced back from their pitt/ohiost/vtech stretch with a win over miami. but hard not to give akron a strong look here in the dog role. akron has always been a great underdog and shaky favorite. its amazing how thats help true for years, even through the coaching change from owens to brookhart. cincy staring at a game with louisville up next. akron could take this one.
developing them here? yes. close your eyes and play the mac dogs this week and you will make money, plain and simple. there are only two teams worthy of laying chalk in mac conf or mac OOC games this saturday and sunday.
