I am a Video Poker virgin, just some quick questions......

Ok first off, I didn't realize there were 8 billion Video Poker games. I am practicing "Jacks or Better" because that is the easiest, so my questions pertain to "Jacks or Better".

1) These odds are the best for max credits (5 coins) right?

Royal Flush = Progressive
Straight Flush = 200
4 Kind = 100
Full House = 45
Flush = 30
Straight = 20
3 of a Kind = 15
2 Pair = 10
J's or B = 5

2) If the machine has a "double up" option should you ever play it, or should you always take the winnings?

3) If dealt 4 of same suit and have one pair of J's or better, should you hold the pair (you can't lose if you do that) or should you hold the 4 of same suit and go for the Flush?

4) Should you always play max credits so you can get the progressive?

5) If there is no progressive, what should payout be for max credits (4000 coins)?

Yes

2) If the machine has a "double up" option should you ever play it, or should you always take the winnings?

That depends on how much u wanna gamble.

U should hold the pair.

Of course.

5) If there is no progressive, what should payout be for max credits (4000 coins)?

Yes

The problem is finding machines that have the correct odds.

In Nevada are they that hard to find? Does every casino have them? Or do only certain casinos have machines with those odds?

No, every casino on the strip does not have this (except on $5 machines and up) except for some machines I just found at TI a few weeks ago. Many of the "local" off strip casinos have good Paylines and a few downtown do as well.

It's easier to find Bonus Poker that are near 100% pay than Jacks or Better. Casinos don't even give you full comp points on JoB because they don't really want people playing that one. It's easier to play perfect strategy on JoB is the reason why I think. Personally I hate that fucking game. Quads only pay 125 so the only way to make any real money is to hit the Royal.

On the other hand, I consider Smurphy more of an expert and that's his favorite game to play because the variance is lower. You get paid on 2 pair. But still 125 on all quads? :jerkit:

Last trip I hit quad aces 4 times. 3 for $800 each and 1 for $2000. That covers a lot of 2 pair paying you back 5 bucks. Not to mention all the other quads I hit along the way and all paid more than the 125. For your bankroll you will usually get more play out of JoB because of the lower variance but if you get in the hole you can forget making a comeback unless you hit the Royal.

In Jacks or Better we are looking for a 9/6 machine correct? On the Northwest IN boats you can barely find 8/5 machines.

In Bonus Poker what do we look for as far as payouts to know we are getting the best bang for our buck?

Thanks.

That wizard site I posted above lists them all. You will be able to see the exact house % of every pay line and every game available.

My thoughts exactly.

The WinPokerHD app is the best 9.99 that I've ever spent. I could go on and on about the value of that software.

Prior to buying it I really thought I knew what I was doing. Nope!

It amazes me that the correct play is going for inside straights in a lot of situations. I still can't hit 100% perfect play going at a decent speed.

I ran into a play I was unsure of in DDB Triple Play.

I was dealt AAA88. The full house returned 45x3=$135 on a $15 bet but I think I correctly broke up the FH and went for the Quad aces. I didn't hit it, of course. :SIB

1. Always look for full pay jacks or better machines to play. Full pay = 9 full house, 6 flush or 45 and 30 with 5 coins.

2. If the double up feature is not cheating then there is no house edge on that. If you are playing for comps or rollover, the double up feature is a good way to do that if allowed. My rule of thumb for playing double up when trying to reach a rollover is to double up every win (except royal and straight flush) twice. So you would be doubling a flush from 30 to 60 and then to 120 credits. You will chew up rollover much faster.

3. you would hold a high pair (J-A) over 4 to the flush but not a low pair.

4. absolutely, yes. In rare occasions there is no benefit to playing max credits when royal paytable goes like this 800, 1600, 2400, 3200, 4000. Again, those machines are rare

5. yes, 4000 coins, under normal conditions.

I have over 200 online Royal Flushes under my belt and maybe 40-50 in live casinos. :0008

In my reading the "experts" say j/b is the best game to play in terms of the long term house edge. But you bring up a great point about the payouts on 4 of a kind.

I am by no means an expert but I think it is best to use the "double up" on JJ/QQ/KK/AA (for J's or B) and collect your winnings on anything higher. Of course I have no clue if casinos worldwide even have this "double up" feature. The "double up" feature may be a rare thing to find, I have no idea.

Oh and Jack gets 40-50 Royal Flushes daily, just sayin'
