go back to the MAC......if you can't stop a team without a QB you can't hang with the big boys......Hellah -- best offense in the nation????? lol...Lee Corso -- best receiving corps in the nation??? these guys don't even belong on the field with Va. Tech....granted Va. Tech is a great team, but this is a joke.....i am sick of these cinderella teams like BYU and Marshall all thinking they deserve a shot at the BCS every year.....there is such a difference in speed, strength, and athleticism between the bigtime programs and the little guy that no comparison should ever be made.....end of story

I agree for the most part. But I think their receivers are better than they showed tonight. Its their lack of a running game and a run 'D' that killed them.

Leftwhich is an unbelievable talent and I'd love to see him in a Skins uniform.:D

Without the mistakes they would be in this game. Give the MAC some credit but I doubt it since you are part of the big conf bias crowd.

uhh yea! Best offense in the nation...on a losing night he had over 400 yards.

You know...I remember back in 97 and 98 when everybody was saying the same stuff everybody here is saying...ohh Randy Moss wont do anything...ohh Chad Pennington sucks..well Moss is one of the best in the NFL..Pennington is still waiting his turn...and in 99 the Herd went 13-0 and finished in the top 10 including a win AT Clemson. Hell I even remember back in the 1-AA days when Troy Brown was with the Herd - and now look at him. So yes...thats the best offense in the nation...if Marshall knew how to tackle someone, then they would be better. That offensive line is good...Byron only got sacked twice? That O-Line gave him good protection! So yea...thats the best offense in the nation.

Hellah, you are right about Pennington. Testaverde is like that rich ass uncle that just wont freakin die so the family can scam in on his cash. He hangs on and hangs on just to piss you off. I will take Pennington in Dallas anyday of the freakin week.

Thank you Hellah I'm glad you saw the same thing I did. They play good D & they could match up with anyone.

Have another drink Hellah!

In order to be the top offense you should probably have some sort of running game. 16 carries for 37 yards? Please. Leftwhich is a phenom and the WRs are good, but that is far, far from the best offense in the nation.

just how many yards came against the prevent when the game was out of question??? AND when you throw on every down, you are liable to have inflated passing numbers....their running game is nonexistent and this supposed top offense was muscled right off the field tonight.....they are not in the same league....time to take the rose colored glasses off

JEFF - I understand where your coming from as far as a balanced offense...buttt according to Marshall

"if you got a line that can protect the quarterback - throw it"

And really....thats kinda true...everytime Leftwich had time - he found someone. Now 1 was a INT and 5 or 6 drops and a few good defensive plays....more times then none at the college level - it`ll win ball games...wont take you to the Rose Bowl or anything...but it`ll do good. Especially when you play bad teams...the pass sets up the run...the defense drops 6 DBs and sets up the run....now wont work against Va Tech obvisouly because the DLine is so good - but credit Marshall for trying to run the ball....hell Iam surprised they even ran it more then 10 times.

I realize they arent in the same league...never said they were. Despite that prevent D...Leftwich STILL had over 200 yards at halftime...and that wasnt prevent D. So to answer your question....the other 200 came on the prevent D. Who stopped Leftwich from throwing the ball?!?! They had 1 coverage sack...thats it.

But like I said..Ive been hearing this for the last 6 years, so its nothing new for me....

Miami and Florida State, for instance, are better offensive teams. Key word is balance. Marshall is a one trick pony..pass, pass, pass. And don't get me wrong, Leftwich is outstanding. But Marshall is clearly not the best offensive team in the country. If you can't run the ball, you can't be considered the best offense in college football.

After tonight, the two times they have stepped-up in class the past two seasons (Florida, Va Tech), they were shut-out in the first half of both games and scored a total of 34 points...a majority of those in garbage time.

Hellah, I have nothing but love for the MAC but I think this is a vastly overrated Marshall team, certainly not the best O in the nation.... anyway, you're first post brought up a different point. You mentioned the '99 Marshall team. I think that team got shafted in the polls and was a far superior team to the one that played Va. Tech tonight. Just for the sake of conversation, which Marshall team did you think was better.
